Keiki - did you see if your son's school has a gifted and talented class? I mean most schools would be happy to have these kids of kids, especially in light of No Child Left Behind.

If you need help, let me know since I know all the Complex Area Superintendents. Since you live in McCully, I'm guessing your sons is in the Kaimuki Complex and I know that Supt very well.

Beastmaster....I don't beleive Manoa School (Roosevelt complex) had a gifted/talented class....at least it wasn't an option presented to me. There were many issues we faced when my son started elementary school, but the bottom line was that he wasn't being challenged (the work was too easy). In Kindergarten they gave him first grade work.....in first grade, they gave him first grade work, and that didn't make sense, so I pulled him out. Manoa school was terrible when it came to providing services and options for my son. They were also very hard to deal with, those days were miserable for me.

Anyways, what is it that you do? It sounds like you work with the DOE....weird that you never heard of that company I interviewed for. Yikes!!!! They were awarded contracts to do skills training for the state.

I did work for the DOE and they always call me back to run projects. The last time I ran a statewide administrative services project for 2 years. I originally oversaw the Honolulu District then asked to run things at the state office. That is why I know the Honoluylu District CAS' very well. I believe the Principal for Manoa retired @ 1 year ago and the new Principal is a friend of mine.

I believe the company you applied to work at had contracts on the SPED or SBBH side. I worked on the administrative side of the DOE.

Wow, that's awesome.....Yeah, I think that company does contact work on the SBBH side. Not completely sure. The new Principal is much better than the old one. The Vice Principal left also....I had a really hard time with the both of them.

If you hear anything about BCRC - Behavioral Counseling and Research Center....let me know. I'm still curious.

Today my boss gave me a raise....a small one, but at least I feel like work doesn't suck so much anymore. I think I'll have to change this thread to...."(Honolulu) Office work sucks.....kinda" Since the raise (and a promotion due to a formality) I guess I'll be staying with my office until the work loads starts to suck again. then mark my words, this thread name will have to change again!

Great news. Maybe more opportunity to advance where you are? Hope they see and reward your talents.

yah, keikilee is happy where she is for now.....There's tons of room for growth at my company, but this is probably not what where I want to be in the long run. I'm helping a friend with a starup, and could always work for him (building custom hot rods) but think I rather not work for a friend. I'm keeping my options open.....but not looking.

thanks for asking, though!

custom hot rods?! wow maybe the two of you can work on fixing cute little mini poopers! once the dealership warranties are over in a year or so, there will be a nice demand for decent techs. go for it, keiki!

Custom Hot rods?
That's interesting.
Let us know if that materializes.
It's probably pretty tough to have that sort of high end business.

he's already doing custom everything right now...but i think he wants to focus more on hotrods. (right now he's doing street bikes, too). So, all I'm doing is helping him go legit and grow his business. Currently, he's taking side jobs for friends, but eventually, he'll like to quit his job, and do this full time. There's such a huge demand for custom bikes/hotrods because of all the hype from American Chopper and AMerican Hotrod. Here in Hawaii, the market is concentrated which is good and bad.
