LATEST CONSUMER REPORTS - MINI RECALLS, etc.
some interesting (actually frightening) recalls:
'03 Mini Cooper
Problem: Screw that connects suspension strut to chassis could eventually break.
Models: 5,110 cars made 9/02 to 11/02.
What to do: Have dealer replace lower screw connection to rear struts.

'02 Mini Cooper
Problem: On certain vehicles with a manual transmission, the shift cable can detach from the linkage while the driver is changing gears. If the transmission moves into neutral, the driver will lose the ability to accelerate or maintain speed, increasing the risk of a crash.
Models: 3,531 vehicles made 9/01 to 5/02. (The Mini Cooper tested for the October 2002 autos report did not exhibit this problem.)
What to do: Have dealer inspect shift cable and, if necessary, install a retaining clip to prevent it from detaching.

2002 Mini Cooper
Problem: Transmission cable could come loose, causing loss of shifting control.
Models: 782 vehicles. (The Mini Cooper tested for the October 2002 autos report did not exhibit this problem.)
What to do: Have dealer inspect shift cable and, if necessary, install retaining clip.

it's probably best to call the dealership and ask them if there are any open recalls or bulletin's on your car.
i had a recall on my 03 mcs within months of owning it (they told me while i brought my car in for something else).
i found out that there was a recall on our 2nd mcs -- but we found out the hard way
car totally stalled and had to be towed to the dealership. not sure what the dealership's policy is on recalls and bulletins.

Look on the sticker just inside the drivers door on the door post just below the latch. There is a sticker with lots of information on it including the VIN. Right after the VIN the month and year the car was built will be shown...............mgg
mini-t,
All of the service bulletins you posted have been well-known for a long time, especially the shift cable issues. They have been discussed in detail on this and the other main MINI sites.
The strut screw issue was known about last year. When I took Wanda in for her 10K servicing last summer, my VIN was checked and wasn't within the service bulletin perameters for the strut screw repair.

Just about every car made has minor service bulletins for the dealer to check something that was found at the factory to possibly be a problem.
None of these are really catastrophic, and very few cars are affected. Best to check when you go to the dealer just in case.

not sure when these bulletins came out. all i know is that i found them as i was looking at the latest consumer reports summary. if you guys knew about them, great. for those who didn't, here you go.
i had no clue our other mcs had a recall until the car totally died and wouldn't start. not a good way to find out.
