Flying into Honolulu on May 24th. Unfortunately w/o my R56...

Hi,

My GF and I will be on Oahu from Monday, May 24th through Friday, May 28th. We've made plans to hit a few trails and get some snorkeling in and I wanted to check in with some Island NAM-ers to get an idea of what sights are worth taking in (I'm sure there are many), where to eat (seafood preferably and dives welcome), and drives we should check out (all though it'll make me miss my S even more). We have eclectic interests so let me know what comes to mind. Mahalo!

R53 motorhead here.

Trails to hike, or trails to run? I know a few for running.

Snorkeling? Hanauma Bay. You can rent gear (it's OK gear, too) there, and if you think ahead, pack and bring a lunch -- you can bring food down to the beach. When you're in the area, swing by the pub for some food and a beer and a shirt.

First time here? Got rental? Consider a windward drive up to the PCC - and plan on being there opening to closing. Nice, nice drive. If you're staying near Waikiki and need a nice end-of-the-day deal, hit up round top.

Also, check in at HMMC, and ask in the forums there.

Check in with the dealership if you can on Kapiolani, they can steer you in the right directions.

Snorkeling-

Northshore shark's cove
Hanauma Bay always good- go early

Eats
Shaved ice at Matsumoto's on the North shore Haleiwa
Northshore Kahuku Shrimp Trucks- near Kahuku sugar Mill

Driving-
Around the island along the ocean head east from Honolulu- you can stop at Hanauma in that direction.

Hi Abuzavi and Minihune,

Thank you two for your recommendations! I didn't see any emails about replies to my post so I thought no one responded but I'm glad I checked in.

I had a few friends suggest Hanauma Bay so it’s already in our near future but your other suggestions are new to me, which is what I was hoping for, and I'll check them out tonight. Cheers!!!

OK, your trip is soon.

We will have some rain this weekend and clearing by about tuesday.

Note that the Hanauma Bay park is closed on tuesdays
http://www.hanaumabaytours.com/hanauma-bay-address/

Go early for better parking and less congestion.
You will need to see an information film about using the nature preserve before going down to the park and don't feed the fish unless you are buying the fish food that is sold. No people food.

You can drive up Tantalus round top drive, there is a park about 3/4th way up and some good views along the way up and down.

You can drive to the Pali Lookout for a view of the windward side. And drive over the H-3, it's very scenic. Past Hanauma Bay on the east coast of the island is very nice and you can stop and various lookouts.

There is also a good hike up the the lighthouse at Makapuu. There is a parking area before you get to Waimanalo.
