hi all,

it's raining outside and i've been on the computer for awhile now :smile: just created a yahoo group called 808-motoring. i'm hoping that we can use it to build a hawaii MINI database and post events, wanted/for sale ads, group buys, questions/answers, and anything else MINI-related.

i've sent invites to those mco members whom i have email for....if you'd like to join, please send me a PM or email minigroupbuys@hotmail.com.

you will need to have a yahoo i.d. to join the group but you can have messages sent to any preferred email address.

please feel free to invite your fellow MINI owners/enthusiasts who aren't yet on MCO or a part of the 808motoring yahoo group. i will be making small cards to invite other MINIs that we find parked on the street, etc. stay tuned. if anyone would like to help with this, please let me know.

hi,

i emailed the both of you with the invite so you should be able to follow the link....let me know if it doesnt work. right now, the group is a private group, which basically means you must be approved before joining...this was done in the hopes that no trolls cause trouble.

hmmm, just tried the yahoo groups search engine and noticed that 808-motoring isn't showing up yet....hopefully by tomorrow. if anyone has problems joining, please contact me.

hmmm, seems like it takes a day to take effect? will let everyone know when it's functional....sorry about that. i guess i've been able to access it b/c i have the administrator account...

for some reason, it's not showing up in their search engine yet. i actually wanted 808motoring (w/o the dash) but i put in under the wrong yahoo account so i deleted it and now i cant get that name back....thus, i created 808-motoring with the space.

i believe the group is up and running now...takes 24hours to take effect i guess. it's a "private" group so go ahead and get a yahoo id and request to join the group and you'll be added :smile:

just realized that if i add you (via your email) to the group, you automatically get all posts/emails. however, if you'd like to access the other features of the yahoo group, you will have to get a yahoo login.

 

You know Mini-T, I would rather log on to yahoo, which I do regularly, then after checking my e-mail, have the Hawaii Groups messages separate, so I can go there on my own. I like the Yahoo Group format, but when you get it in your e-mail even when you don't request it, it takes away from the anticipation of going to that place, that special MINI Hawaii place, to check in with your local brothers and sisters.

that's true...i guess it works both ways. some people would rather have emails come to their inbox while others would see the posts. i believe that you can choose your own preferences in your yahoo profile?

I'm not affected by this (losing the novelty) much as there's roughly a four-day delay in me receiving 808-motoring Yahoo e-mail.

*mini-t: Super cool signature!! Btw, wouldn't keeping on the 808-motoring Yahoo link on your sig introduce the newbies to it? Just my $0.02 ...

hi all,

there was a little mix up with the yahoo groups and thus, some of the messages were wiped out. i reposted the TOYS 4 TOYS message as the event is coming up.

also, i have changed everyone's (except those who signed up for special messages only) mail preferences to a "daily digest" which basically sends messages posted on a single day into one email message. hmmmm...you can always change your own preferences to no email (you login to the yahoo groups to read the posts) or special messages only.

as of today, we have 25 members which is nice but there are still hundreds and hundreds of MINI owners out there. the 808-motoring cards will start appearing this weekend.

as of today, we have 31 members who are truly from hawaii or have ties to hawaii (i think). we had a couple of others who tried to sneak in.....heheh.

The Flyer is in the file section after you log on to the 808-motoring group.
Use it when you meet new MINI owners or leave them on the windshield to make first contact.

i'll print up a whole bunch in black and white but on colored paper for anyone who wants some. i could print them in color but b/c i only have a color inkjet, the chances of it running in the rain are too high and will make it look ugly. so, if anyone wants some, please let me know.

i have also set up a new email (hawaii808motoring@yahoo.com) that prospective members can email to be added to our yahoo group in the event that one is unable to figure out nam or the yahoo group. had to add the hawaii in the front of the email b/c yahoo doesnt allow emails to start with numbers
