GP2 suspension problem
GP2 suspension problem
I sense that My GP2’s bilstein struts is starting to fail, I am researching if I can replace new struts but it seems that GP2 bilsteins are way overpriced. A lot of people online say GP2 bilstein is basically bilstein b14 with different spring rate. So should I just buy a set of bilstein b14, and keep OE springs? Will that basically solve my problem?
The GP2 shocks have slightly different valving, as the spring rate is slightly different. However, there is not an enormous difference. So the B14 kit designed for the R56 would work with the oem springs ok, as long as you did both sides. However, the standard springs are probably a bit old and jaded now, so probably best to just put in the B14 with new springs from the B14 kit. The B16 would be even better, as it is adjustable, but otherwise identical.
Another alternative, if the car is not a daily driver, is to take out the original shocks, and send them to a bilstein workshop to be refurbished/rebuilt. How easy that is will depend on your location.

I'd go B16 if I were you - and reuse the factory springs as long as they're in good shape, as they're specific to the weight of the GP2.
