GP Dash Badging
All I really wanted was to get a badge for the dash, not likely to happen. Getting free stuff from MINI would not accomplish this. They made the offer to comp me in some other way as a goodwill gesture, which was very generous of them. I wouldn't feel right taking them up on it.
So now I have the rarest GP of all. It's the only one to come from the factory without the badge.

Missing it's dash badge doesnt make it rare... it's makes it a defect.
But rare is one way of looking at it. Whatever makes you feel better, thats the important thing.
Speaking of rare..... I think my GP is rare too, but I have all my bits. The thing that makes it rare is...... and I wasnt going to tell anyone, but what the hell, my VIN number on the windshield does not match the VIN number on the rest of the car. One digit is wrong. i.e. My GP is coded as a 2005 car. Does anyone have this problem? Or is mine uber rare?
Italian Build Quality for the win
That's interesting - my 2006 cabrio is one of 147 that was accidentally given a 2007 VIN at the factory, so my strut tower actually has *two* VIN stampings on it - the incorrect 2007 VIN that has been crossed out, and the correct 2006 VIN.
Yours is the first GP I've heard of that was given the wrong-year VIN, though.

It also, looks like you have the lightest GP of them all!
How about a free trip over to the assembly plant? So you could pick one up in person? Call it free on the job training ?
Good Luck !

I have the number 0271 and the number 1 is out of line and is a quarter of an inch higher and a little crooked ! My dealership also had no answer for this problem so they gave me a free GP cover and mats !
What gets me is how they can't fix these problems !
sucks that yalls cars are so rare that you cant get your problems fixed. on a side note, any of you guys live in Charleston, SC. My brother goes to The Citadel down there and says he has seen a pack of two GPs running around town
Well Homer, it is good to know that all GP owners get the same treatment at your dealer. We are still waiting for the bonnet decal owed us by your dealer since delivery.
Supercharged cars are old stuff, got to concentrate on the new turbo hotness!

Hey Mike, if you had asked in the local club, www.hrmini.com, I had already posted the following picture:

The signature above the decal is where John Michael Cooper signed some of the early deliveries in Monterey. If you really want the decal, I suggest contacting Phil Craddock, aka MiniPirate, who has the technology to duplicate GP decals.

Thank you Sherry,
I did see the picture of you dash, I just wanted to confirm what I already knew. It never hurts to tap NAM as a resource, as it is a wealth of useful information.
Thanks for the tip on MiniPirate, I'll be contacting him soon. Since my dealership does not have the ability to manufacture factory parts, and they have vigorously pursued every avenue to get them, I can't see blaming them in this case. They are still the BEST!!!

hey Homer,
I would document the problem as much as you can . If you hold onto the car little deleted items like this can add value down the road. just follow the muscle car/factory race effort cars of the 60s-70s. Documentation of these issues will make your car a bit more one off in the future. I am sure someone will chime in and counter my point but I am sure they didn't grow up breathing mucle cars like I did.
The more the cars are built the same in limited production the less they are one off. You have a small one off feature. I would embrace it! I remember being at a car show and running into an AC and radio delete 1986 Corvette..with documentation......that is one off! Finding something that one off in a production (26k or so cars) run with only interior options offered made that car a gem of a find. I didnt have the money to buy that car while it was for sale but I imagine it will find its way to Barret Jackson in 10 years with a crazy price tag.
I know you paid for a complete package but in the end you may just have a cool story to tell. Without the documentation you just have a GP with no dash emblem

Sometimes OEM just isn't available though.
