For those GP haters, you may not know what you are missing. The list of what makes a GP is much more than just the list of mods, its the final package that makes it so awesome. There are so many little bits on this car that make it unique...most were listed somewhere in the thread. Its such a well rounded package and for the money, in comparison to trying to build a comparable "regular " JCW car you cant beat it. 31,115??? Take a base model S and add the full JCW package and see the total, then add the 18" wheels and you are over the cost of a GP and you havent even given consideration to the GP specific parts.

If you are looking for an out of the box awesome mini the GP is a great option if you can get one. I had the pleasure of putting a couple thousand miles on a GP durring MTTS and that completly sold me.

Our GP will remain stock with only a couple little bits here and there and we will keep it forever so who cares if it is ever worth a crazy amount of $ or not. Its a Mini and its extremly fun and unique, one of 415 delivered to the states. Just think after 6 months to a year how many will be left? And how unique will it be then?

No matter what happens with the R56 the R53GP will always have its place as a limited edition unique and awesome Mini!!

I'd suggest checking out these outlines from various sources explaining this a little more.
http://www.caranddriver.com/shortroa...ks-gp-kit.html
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc..._works_gp.html
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...3007/1008/FREE

European Car also had some detailed specifics, but I simply can't pull up the article.

Essentially, the injectors allow for greater flow and the supercharger is more heavyduty.

From EVO:

"Under its clamshell bonnet, the GP builds on the modifications of the Works kit (faster spinning supercharger, revised intake system, uprated injectors, freer-breathing exhaust) with a more efficient intercooler and reprogrammed engine management."

Exactly. JCW kit plus larger IC and new software.

I guess we'd need to pull out the JCW and GP specs and compare, but then why didn't they just state they used JCW's supercharger and injectors?

Seems to me they did something more than just pull the supercharger and injectors from the JCW. My take is they revised the JCW blower and repalced the JCW injectors.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can shed some light on this.

You're totally entitled to your "take." You could be right, but the modest 3% gain in peak hp lines up pretty well with a slightly larger IC and tweaked ECU map to match. Nothing more needed to get you there.

I know for sure they added several more rows to the intercooler to make it more effective.

.1 sec quicker 0 - 62 than JCW and

But in the end you have to ask yourself whether the extra $2,000 or so you’re asked to pay for the GP above the cost of the already pricey Cooper S Works is warranted. “Probably not,” is the honest answer

hmm, not what I thought I would be reading there.

Used to own a '05 JCW. I'll find out for myself after the break-in period on the GP. Who knows, maybe I'll be terribly dissappointed. The car at least seems to stop a lot better.

As a pilot, here's what I know. Weight has as big an impact on how an airplane climbs/performs than power. the airplanes I have flown that weigh approx what the Mini weighs (Cessna 172's, 182's, 170's, Piper Arrows, etc) respond noticeably negatively with another 120 pounds of, say fuel, passenger, luggage, whatever. Not just in the climb...it is noticable in acceleration and braking. It can mean you don't take off on a runway of already marginal length. Being a pilot doesn't make me an engineer, or an auto expert...there are far more qualified people on this forum to speak to this issue. All I'm saying is as a consumer, as a Mini Maniac, as a former MCS JCW owner and as a lover of fine motor conveyences of all kinds, the extra $ made sense to me.

Then again, maybe I'm an idiot. If my friends saw this post they would say, "Yeah, you're an idiot". But, what do they know?!!

We'd rather drive 'em I guess

All I know is I have driven both the JCW and the GP now. I feel better performance wise in driving the GP. Period and end of story for me.

Nevermind, answered my own question thanks to the manager at Vista BMW/MINI.
Another thing of note, in the EVO article it is mention that John Cooper Works was not consulted on the GP. I'm unsure who they are quoting as a source (can't pull the article up again) but that seems a bit at odds with the vehicle as advertised.
Anyway, hope everyone is enjoying their new GP's and look forward to seeing some of you down south here!

It's all good Chris. If everyone wanted the same thing we'd all be driving the exact same car!
