Lighter. Lots of HP. No backseats. Lots of HP. Performance suspension and brakes. Did I mention the HP?!

The car also has a very unique body kit which gives it a 1 in 2000 look.
For full details have a read.

the thing you really buy when getting an GP is exclusivity...

honestly there's a lot of better cars out there in that price range

The way I look at it, its just like BMW. There are 328is' that are fast and everything, but there is the M3. Its in a class of its own. If you say "I own a 328" people dont really care. When you say "I own an M3" people know that you actually know what you just bought.

Take a JCW, and remove the rear seats. Add 8 more HP. That's pretty much a GP.

And paint it a unique color.
And add a unique aero kit.
And fit a unique spoiler.
And change the dials to a unique design.
And ...

The GP is a special package; it's not simply a JCW with no rear seats and those that think it is are fooling themselves

It's the fastest production MINI built and it's numbers are limited. That's a powerful draw for most.

Nice try, Ian. But we all know that except for all the things that are different, it's exactly the same.

Love the GP dials!

I'm suprised those are the things that came to Ian's mind first. I'd say:

JCW suspension (sure, you can get that on a non-GP. Heck, there's even some loonies with it on base Coopers )
Aluminum rear trailing arms (lighter suspension pieces)
Underbody panelling for smoother airflow

All of that is merely cosmetics.

Didn't I just say I like looks?

If the only thing people want is go faster, and they don't care what it looks like, then buy a WRX. The MINI appeals on many levels - including performance and handling but also looks, uniqueness, etc.

Why Gromit do you have stripes on your cars hood? Does it make the car go faster? Or Xenons - those things are heavy!

Because it makes most other MINI owners jealous of your car

THAT'S saying something

(I don't own one BTW, I need the rear seats )

MDSbrain, I really enjoyed the GP read you referenced. It says, regarding the sound of the car, exactly what I feel about my car. Why listen to the radio/cd, when the car makes such beatiful music?

Glad I'm not one of the "most."

A Mini with "bling," and a limited production run. The overall performance increase over the JCW is very slight.

If they'd upped the engine by 20hp over a JCW, I'd say great car, but as far as I'm concerned, the GP is mostly hype.

I'm sure that you have more time behind a GP wheel than I, however I have been tracking Mini/MINIs for a while and I can tell you first hand that this car is more than the sum of it's parts. Don't remember much "bling" either. See you at the track.

How many of the 2000 GPs are sold/spoken for? That should settle the argument right there (wait, what is the argument about again?!)

I'm not jealous of other MINI owners...I'm jealous of Ferrari and Lamborghini owners. Not because of those cars so much, but because I wish I had $250,000 sitting around! Then I could get heated seats, boot storage, the exhaust system I really want, an aero kit, a throttle body...

Thats a poor arguement. Some dealers did have open slots.

There are several cars on cars.com, ebay etc. They were NOT sold out in the sense going to people actually wanting them but rather to potential "investors". ROFL

So funny, investing in a 2000 car run. :impatient

Wait until the first second gen JCW comes out with 230HP and see how special they become!

Only car owner I've ever been envious of, is a guy who owned a pristine 1937 MG-SA Saloon.

That, and Harley Cluxton.
