I just saw the email from MINI. Is there pricing info? I like the idea of no back seat! The red looks great too!

Check motoringfile.com All kinds of info. Price maybe $30K.

No, its not MINI's attempt to make a two seater. You too can have the same thing, just buy the rear seat delete kit from on of the vendors here. Rather, its MINIs last hurrah for gen one cars ... marketing .

I am hoping I can get a hint today on the price. I called to get put on the waiting list today. I am expecting a call back!

I know everyone is saying about 30k.

Try again folks, how does $38,000 sound?

(any one else reminded of the MC40)

A standard JCW S is $30K. Can't image the GP will be the same.

Looks and sounds pretty cool from the link I received this morning. It looks like April 14 they will release everything you need to know. My source says somewhere around $37,500 to $40K. Whatever it is, they'll sell out quickly.

Won't be too many buyers from the crowd that hangs out on this (NAM) corner, I fear. With that much money you could put together a Tuls-beater and buy a lot of high octane gas to put in it. And pay for a trip to The Dragon to show everyone what you did!
cheers, phil

The high side of $35,000 for a seat delete JCW MCS with Chili Red mirror caps and a custom rear spoiler?

Might be fun for a track day car or a garage queen (but I could sure put that kind of $$ to better use - read Lotus Elise). I think this is a last Hurrah for the original series BMW MINI. What will Gen.II bring forth?

Still somebody'll bite, I'm sure.

With 415 GPs bound for the US (according to MINIUSA) my money says that every one is "sold" before they are even off the boat.

You'd think so.. and I hope so.. it helps factory made hopped-up versions of production car sales everwhere. The funny thing is.. when I bought my 97 Integra Type R, which there were only 330+ sent to the states that year, they had them sitting on lots.. probably because of the outrageous markup they threw on them. I was a little burned to find out that my dealer wanted me to pay $8k over sticker for the car when it came in, despite the fact that I was first on the list for well over a year before it hit the dealership, and that I was had purchased 2 other Integra's before that from this particular dealer... Needless to say, I paid the markup (I was able to get them to come down to $7k over, big woop-ee, I know) and never looked back. It was still a hell of a bargain at $26k..with the markup.

I could only imagine that there are plenty of Mini dealers out there that would love to have a GP sitting in their showroom to help with foot traffic. I'm sure they would keep it there with some silly markup, $10k+, just to add to their draw and if someone buys it with the silly markup, great for the dealership.. For them it's a win/win...

I would consider it if it were under $34k... but in the $40k+ range?.. I'll pass. Think of how many OEM GP parts you can buy for an extra $10k?.. if you can find someone to order them for you.

2006 MINI JCW GP Kit

Wow,

The new 2006 JCW GP, fastest production MINI ever:

http://www.miniusa.com/link/ourcars/jcw_gp_kit

A WHOLE 4HP more than the standard JCW. Any guesses how many $1000s this will cost per additional horse? :impatient

Truly worthy of being Craptastic!

I bet this puppy will run close to $40 or 45K... Hell, my '05 MCS ran $32K with all of its amenities. SOOOOO tempted though. 150mph top speed? I have yet to get past 110mph so maybe that's not such a great idea in DEER country, lol.
Enjoy, enjoy, enoy whomever buys this beast. :-D

IMO, of course

Not impressed. :impatient Overpriced (my guess $40K plus, anyone want to start a pool here?) monochromatic cop magnet with that STi-ish rear "wing." And those wheels? just plain hideous. If this is the first generation's last hurrah, then RIP first generation, I don't care how exclusive it is. Think I'll save my bucks for the V8 M3 coupe. JB

I got the e-mail about it today. I noticed a big red box that said something to the affect of 'may not represent US specifications' ....whatever that means. Aside from looks, I just don't understand why you would buy one if you wanted a really fast mini, vs. just going aftermarket. I guess its the thrill of owning something unique (and by unique I simply mean something that an engineer in another country thought would be unique...not actually something that you made unique ),

You can always try to source the parts from

someplace like Classic Auto Campus, or look them up on RealOEM and order through your dealer.... But WTF, it sure looks like it will underperform serious expectations. But the torque looks nice(r). Maybe they finally figured out a good tune. Or those numbers are the ones that won't make it due to emissions regs!

Well whether you like it at this point in time or not any car that has a limited number created will have a high value later in life, if it is truly cared for. It's not worth it to me to buy it, but I'm sure they will all be purchased and quickly. Well, to each their own.

Highly doubtful. If the price is around $40K your getting a stripped car with a few more HP. They will rot in dealers lots.

Actually the JCW GP was announced last October. And for the record it's 7hp more than the 207hp JCW Kit (in US spec). If you go by BHP (rather than HP like only the US seems to do) it's 218 BHP vs 210 BHP.

Anyway you can find a shed-load of info from the last six months here: Motoringfile Search: "JCW GP"

I wish that was true....but so many people will buy it just for the name....just like the MC40 which had a few minor upgrades but nothing special.

The people are gonna buy it because its a super rare end of the generation model not because they are intrigued by the performance additions (which i agree, dont live up to the price).
