I am getting around to replacing the parts on the rear suspension, but i wanted to make sure that i'm ordering the correct parts for my GP1. I am looking to replace the rear shocks with Koni Sports to complement the Sports i have in the front currently. Would i just order one for the rest of the R53 lineup? I was under the impression that i needed to find one specific for the GP due to the different rear arms? Also, what else do i need to replace while i'm in there? The bushings? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

 

The GP aluminum trailing arms are different from R53. Easiest option to order R53 struts and get the adaptor from Way, Helix or Orrange. Google “MINI R53 to R56 trailing arms adaptor“.

 

Thanks so much! So as i have a GP, i can just order r53 rear shocks? Do you know if any of the other hardware is different? Like the swing arm bushings?

I just finished this job a few weeks ago. All you need are the adapters from Way as noted above and the correct drill to modify the top hats since the KONI shafts are larger in diameter.

Ok, thanks. So basically if I wanted to be 100% original, i'd buy r56 rear shocks? And what bushings do I change in the rear suspension while im doing the rear shocks? Do people change them up or just keep stock?

 

If you wanted to be original you would actually order GP shocks from MINI direct, but my guess is the price for them would be stupid expensive. That is why everyone goes aftermarket.

We always replace the upper rear shock mounts when we do the rear shocks with the powerflex.
