Best Way to Protect GP from BUGS

The Front Bumper, Outside Mirror Caps, and part of the Hood on my GP is practically covered with bugs. For some reason unknown, the GP attracts all sorts of bugs. I can't tell you how many times I've washed the GP just to remove them.

Is there any solution I could use on the GP so I can protect it more??

Maybe something such as a Bra?? I don't know who makes one for the GP though.

Thanks for the help.

Drive slower so the bugs have a chance to avoid the car.
But wait, that is no fun.
I guess we just have to live (die) with the bugs.

Some people have started to use plastic/cling wrap (like saran wrap) to cover the front of cars for trips to help with bugs and chips. I believe it is the same stretch wrap used to wrap boxes on shipping pallets. You just wrap the front of the car for the trip and then peel it off and throw it away. You can cut holes for grills/vents/lights and it sticks very well.

I also notice that my radiator/condenser are always a mess with bugs that get through the grill.

Besides no driving at night.....

Wash and wax....whether it is a few bugs or alot, this needs to be done on a weekly basis regardless. Don't focus on reducing the bugs, it just makes you complacent a bout the few bugs that are still there. Keep a good polish on the surface and they come off pretty easy during your weekly wash, and prevents the bug guts from really getting stuck on the surface

I was going to say put a good wax on it and they essentially wipe right off with the "quick detailer" spray, but wow... Do you really wax your car every week? If so, I'm impressed.

Adam I have Rejex on my Miata & from what I can tell it doesn't work any better than the Epic I use on the MINI. Rejex isn't bad, but it's not a wonder wax either. My .02...

The curse of the Florida "LOVE BUG"

Here in the sunshine state we have a bug called the "LOVE BUG" The love bug is born to mate. The only thing they like to dine on is the paint on any car made. They swarm twice a year and they are swarming right now. I have to drive to Tampa from Daytona and return on the 25th. so I will probably kill at least 3 million of the %#$@&^ Love Bugs. Don't worry though, They will be replaced by at least a BILLION or more.

Anybody that ever seen a "LOVE BUG" will never forget them.

I refuse to drive for long periods of time when it is love bug season. 30 minutes on the highway = 3 hours of love bug clean-up.

However, when the front of my car eventually does get all bugged up, I use dryer sheets as a scrubber while washing the car and it helps to remove them significantly. The sheets act as a light polish while washing.

lol, no I don't wax once a week. But I really like that meguiars NXT it goes on and off so easy it makes frequent waxing more possible. Its not the ultimate for shine and depth...etc. but when you are talking daily driver, you can hit it with nxt every few weeks to keep it looking good.

Do already have clearbra on there? That's the best protection I think.

I use to detail semi truck cabs for a living, you wana talk about BUGS!!!

There are several bug removers on the market that work well, also a LIGHT degreaser can be used before waxing. Our shop would mix a bug remover with SimpleGreen and regular windshield washer fluid(mostly bug remover). You need to use a wax after degreaser gets on your paint though, it will take all the wax OFF leaving your clear coat exposed.

I also use NXT, it is some good wax but when the car is left in the sun it does cook off kind of quick.

A clear bra is your best bet for total protection on your GP. they could even cover the entire front of your car with the film. The bugs will still be there but, sadly nothing but a good scrub down is going to solve that one.

I am going to extreams and painting my car a matte finish dark silver, unfortunately there are no other than shiney clear bras so the front of my car will be far more susceptable to rock chips and bugs. There wont be much need for wax anymore, but for flat/matte paint never underestimate the power of spraying the car down with ArmorAll then giving it a good wash with a little soap and a whole lot of high pressure watter.

No, I don't have any type of Bra on the GP...

I am really Considering getting a ClearBra. I just wasn't sure what brand is best. My one problem with getting a ClearBra, would be having it installed. Not sure there are many Installers out near me.

I washed the GP yet again, the 2nd time this week lol, just to remove the bugs.

3M makes the best clearbra films (in various thickneses). You would need to talk to a dealer on what would be best for you. Most dealerships install clearbras, or have a local shop do it, if you are lucky you might be able to have their installer do it for his price without the dealer markup, if you talk to him directly.

I've had a clearbra on my GP since it was new. It still looks great, however if you look close there are many areas where it is pealing or bubbling. I believe it is Invisishield which was what MINI was selling at the time; it cost a good chunk, but it does work. I would recommend getting one.

I put a couple coats of the NXT 2.0 stuff on the MINI before MOTD this year, and just wiped the bugs off every day with the detailing spray.

Worked great, IMO.
