50,000 coming up.

GP 0696 is about to reach the end of it's warranty, I have not been able to keep up with the GP thread for quite some time so not really sure of any problems that need to be addressed. So far the only things that I'm planning on talking to the dealership about are the threads coming out of drivers seat and heat blowing on the windshield when the selector is on floor. Does anybody have any suggestions on possible problems that I may have the dealership check out?
I checked out the extended warranty that the dealership offfered and it seemed like it costs way too much for covering too little.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I had Continental ESP for my old Jag. Cost was about $1,600US. It was worth it in the end as I had some 3K dollars worth of work done and covered car rentals.....

As for the MINI, there are some repairs which can be rather steep. Transmission pump, Supercharger/Water pump/fan assembly replacement/CVT Transmissions.....they run easily into the thousands of dollars to repair mostly due to labor costs.

Just check around and see what parts/labor is covered and match that against the known problem areas of our MINI's. It could just end up saving you some money down the road.

I'd like to hear thoughts on this subject, too

I've had the thermostat housing assembly replaced twice for leaks. Also have had the oil pan gasket changed out twice. I believe these issues are not unusual for any '05 or '06 MCS, but still applicable to the GP.

Yup, I'm closing in on 48,000 miles on my GP, too (and in August it will be 4 years of ownership), so I'd like to hear thoughts on this subject, too.

And, yes, the threads on my driver and passenger seats are frayed, need to talk to them about that. I'm not sure I really want a local upholstery shop doing the seats with new material. I'd almost rather just put some good covers on, but then I'd miss that aspect of the GP uniqueness.

Winston,

Two other things to check: clutch shudder (I'm not aware of it happening much if any at all with GP's but it's certainly popped up for '05 and '06 models), and the infamous GP "slam" required to get the hatch to close.

Thanks Gray Raven, I'll try to get some information on the Continental ESP although I have not had any luck so far but it sounds good. You don't have a link or anything do you?
Goodfinder,
I have also had my oil pan gasket replaced twice and the thermostat housing once not to mention the passenger side motor mount which I heard was pretty common. I will start paying closer attention to the clutch shudder. My hatch is not too bad, I've learned the proper force but it would be worth having them look at it. I guess there is nothing we can do about the howling windshield at speeds that I read about some time ago...
My GP is also just about to tick over to 48,000 and in October of this year I will have owned it for four years and I'm keeping it!

I had the clutch issue with gp1996 as did gp1099 here in Phoenix.. gp1274 does too, but the local dealer says it doesnt.. what a surprise .

One other thing I was curious about is do the GPs have the "cold weather package" or do we just have heated seats? I have noticed that my GP doesn't melt the ice from my mirrors.

Maybe your P/S has been intermittently faulty.

Also complain about oil leaks, even if you don't see them. They can't fix a leak they see unless you have complained about a leak. Same with coolant leaks, like thermostats. Your supercharger inlet gasket may be leaking.

to be sure

OK, I am about to take my GP in this week and drop it off for the big "laundry list of items" before my 4yr/50K warranty runs out. Here is the current list:

Most currently have a light pink fluid on the garage floor
Recently had green or blue fluid on floor, too
Occasional clutch chatter when initially engaging first gear
Need to do an oil and filter change
Threads coming up in driver and passenger seats
Rear hatch closing
Rear hatch rattles
Check the motor mounts to make sure they aren't about to fail
Power steering sometimes make noises and doesn't feel right
Check supercharger inlet gasket to make sure it's not leaking and that it's in good shape
General inspection for any other pertinent points especially since my 4yr/50K date is coming soon
Crunchy windshield wiper action

Any other things come to mind that I should be sure to have the MINI dealer check?

Thanks,
-Steve

Those are some very good suggestions to put on my list too, just went 48k yesterday. Sorry to ask again but does anyone know about if we are suppose to have heated washer jets and heated mirrors?

Heated washer jets...doesn't seem to be that way on my GP...same for the heated mirrors question. Side note, if the Arkansas weekend trip comes together for March, maybe we'll be able to join the Metroplex MINI et al crowd.

I've been wanting to make another run in Arkansas, I'll try to stay tuned for that one.
