Ruined a GP
those wheels are a horror show. are those gp wheels? from the line? i'd be vomiting over paying for them . the whole lambo doors thing is curious. if you wanted a lambo go buy one . the truck thing is well um whatever . mini did it so guess it's not too off topic .

Just my $0.02 here but I think I know why we're so divided on this concept.
First we have the MINI owners and enthusiasts that personify the car and see it as more than just a machine, those of us that hate the crime that was committed here.
And then we have the MINI owners and enthusiasts that understand that the car is simply a machine, and have no problem with what happened to that poor GP.
I'm also not saying that someone can't have both qualities. (Sorry for the double negative)
Am I close? At all?

I admit the workmanship is first rate from what I can see from the photos, but I guess it is like taking a Ming Dynasty vase and using it as a bed pan. I agree with an earlier post; if it were any other type MINI it wouldn't have even phased me. When the GPs are all gone, that's it. There is one in my area someone bought for his 16 year old son...needless to say he has trashed it. The interior of this particular GP (I'll pass on revealing the vehicle number as to prevent embarrassment to the owner) looks as if a Grizzly wiped his butt with it and the exterior is all scratched, dinged, and dented and looks as if it has been never washed.
I think it would be Waaaaaay less angering (if even at all) if it wasnt a GP.
The vomit and rage come in when i realize that a (possibly) perfectly good GP is chopped up.
The GP was designed to REDUCE weight, I doubt that that bed reduces weight.
It just goes against everything the GP stands for, imho.

Ok, I'm going to pitch in my opinion too...
I think it's a awesome concept, but it's a waste because it's a GP. Sure everyone else's GP price went up... but it's STILL a GP. The Grand Prix MINI's ultimate goal and purpose was to go fast, save weight, and be limited. If your going to do something like THAT to a GP and still use a Convertible's rear hatch, you might as well have started from a regular MCS from the first place and replicate the GP look. I just don't think this car will justify it's purpose for it's design.

Guys this is just a car and it is HIS car. Didn't many of us buy Minis to personalize them, to make them into what WE wanted. You are treating the GP's as sacred cows. They are just one of several Mini " limited edition " cars IE: MC 40 and are never going to achieve big dollar collector status no mater how long you keep them up on blocks in your living room. One sold on EBAY for under 20 k with only 13,500 miles on the OD.We have several GP's in the club some of them are third owners already . These guys are not afraid to mod them even to the point of stripped interiors and full cages which in my opinion is a better way to go but not the ONLY way. As for me I will appreciate any mods over something bone stock . At least they did more than write a check .

For what it's worth, there has been discussions about this GP on other forums and it was a wrecked GP to start. I believe it had pretty extensive rear damage so this is what was planned out for it.
I agree with Randy on this one. The fact that it is a GP has nothing to do with that it is a cool car. Especially since a wrecked GP is done for anyway. If you are going to save it you may as well make it cool like a truck.

I actually like it, except the Lambo doors. Makes it rather cheesy in my opinion. Although I would reserve final judgment until I could see it in person. I have seen lots of cars that I thought looked good in a picture but didnt in person or vice versa. I guess I am in the minority when I say that it being a GP doesnt bother me, wrecked or not. The people responsible for MINI marketing are pretty savvy and the GP is a good example. Great car, love the subtle looks but they did a good job of producing a desirable car with a much greater profit margin than your average or above average MINI. A 2000 car run is not extremely exclusive and one GP lost isnt going to have much if any affect on the value of the remaining. Now if this had been one of only five, or ten or twenty then I would be lamenting the use of a GP. Regardless it sure looks like the fit, finish and concept is well thought out and executed. So peeps should go to the fabricators for their work and expertise.

The real travesties are those horrendous exposed hinges on the back! Who would ever put something so awkward and ugly on a Mini?
Other than that, I like it, even if it were a brand new GP. It's not like someone turned a Cobra Daytona Coupe into a hearse for cryin' out loud.

Wish I could make out the roof number.
