Did your car come with an owner's manual?

There are quite a lot of threads asking things which are clearly answered in the Owner's Manual. Now, I can understand maybe not getting around to reading, or remembering, the entire owner's manual. But, wouldn't you prefer to get the answer from the horse's mouth, than from some people you probably don't even know?? So, how many of you haven't cracked the binding on the manual?

I got one in a very nice leather pouch along with maps and an assortment of other things. Ive read probably 75% of the manual so far. I know what you are getting at though. Lots of repetitive questions in the R56 forum that people could have easily searched for.

There are lots of repetitious questions all over this forum about standard manual fare. I personally had the whole manual read before I even ordered! The manual is out there in PDF form for all to view, a great resource for those who may have purchased used and didn't receive the manual.

Mine also came in a nice leather case with the dealer atlas/maps, etc.

I've read mine cover to cover, but. Sometimes it's hard to go back in and find certain info you thought you read some place. Sometimes you are trying to find something out and don't have the book handy, like it's home in the car and you are at work. Sometimes what you think you read don't work. And others just like to write. The folks here are much more fun to converse with than the stupid owners manual anyhow.

All points well taken. But, just seems to me, if you are trying to figure something out, the manual's the first place to go. Especially, when it is basic stuff like, "how do I unlock the gas cap?"

I wonder this all the time. I frequently resist the urge to be a complete smart-a** at obvious questions.

"How do you unlock the gas cap?"
Response "You don't. It opens randomly when it wants and you have to put gas in it then. Don't miss it or you'll be stranded. It's a quirk, don't worry about it"

I know, Jen. Or how about, "The MINI is so advanced it knows when it is at the gas station. So just pull up to the pump".

Haha

"It only opens when you say the magic word. Unfortunately, they all have their own magic word so you must sit in your driveway and read out of a dictionary until you find it. If you're lucky, it will start with a "B"... mine starts with a "M""

"Why do my windows go down a little when I open the door?"
Response "OMG your car is possessed!! RUN!"

"Where is my battery?"
Response "Pffft... MINIs don't have those"

You have a legitimate question. I have always believed its because NAM does not have a FAQ. This question, or a variation of it, has been asked several times in the past by others. Lots od duplicate threads. Sure, new experience comes all the time but simple things are in the manual. On other forums, this lack of reading the manual is not tolerated very well.
