Can a boot handle from a hardtop mini be installed onto a convertable?

I bought a boot body colored boot handle to replace my chrome one, a convertable owner has bought my chrome boot handle and we are planning to install it tomorrow - will it work?

According to realoem the part numbers are the same.

I'm looking at the trunk lid grip. #12 on the R53 and #09 on the R52

I know this is a pretty old thread, but am hoping that you folks are like me, and keep stuff laying about the basement forever... (After all, I still have the orginal Chili Red boot handle that I replaced with my lovely crhome one 2 yrs ago...!
Do you still have your chrome boot handles laying about?

A slight mishap with hte garage door opener, and my handle now is less than perfect... :(
