Almost made it to the 400 mile club

Range counter was on 2 miles, trip meter was at 386. Took 13.7 to fill.

Now I have made the 800 mile club on my TDI NB

I've found that if you run the computer down to 0 miles, you can still go at least 10 miles. Haven't run out of gas yet.

You should have gone for it! So close. . .

Did anyone see the Seinfeld with Kramer and the car salesman?

The gas gauge needle broke off!

I've been kinda watching to see if I can hit 400 miles on a single tank too. My best so far was almost 380. My commutes are 35+ miles each way but I keep ruining it with some around town driving and the occasional heavy right foot.

I've gone over 400 on a tank before, and I have JCW too! I took pics at the end to prove it to the "disbelievers".

The pics are on my camera at home, I'll try to get them uploaded later, and add them to my post.

Mind you, the way I normally drive, I average only 20 or 21 MPG.

Just because you have pictures doesn't mean you can prove it, it would be very easy to fake.

13.7 gallons, you must have been running on left over fuel particles from the exhaust fumes of the cars in front of you. I mean that is empty.

I have made I believe about 420 on a tank, but that was all freeway miles on a long trip. And for those that claim that you can only fit 13.7 gal into a Mini, I have filled up with 14.2. Twice. So there is a little extra room in there.

Thats an entire extra gallon . Amazing how much gas can sit in the fuel lines/carb/etc.

I hit 300 miles on just half a tank this past week with a mix of heavy city/hwy driving (heavy on the foot) The best I did was 388 on a tank but I am sure I can do better than 400

Yeah, but you have a Cooper, we expect that.

If you can pull off 500 on a tank in a Cooper, then we'll be impressed.

Quite impressed here with some of your results, the most ive had so far in a tank of gas was 365 in my MCS, which i think its pretty damn good on a mix of highway and city driving

My last tank I made it to 389 miles and that was mostly city driving with some highway trips here and there... I think I could have made it to 400, but was a little nervous as the needle was on the red lighted area and I don't have the onboard computer showing range, etc. haha... Since my friend literally ran out of gas on an overpass the other day with me in the car, I'm better at remembering to fill up!

I don't think I'd have any problem with mostly highway miles to top 400... I did a long-ish trip last weekend, and I'm at 280 at half a tank, so maybe this is the tank to pass it!

So does anyone know how low you can let the needle go before you are in 'danger' territory? I noticed the light comes on fairly early...

I think it's interesting that you can fill up more than what they say the gas tank is too... I mean I don't top off, but my last fill up was something like 13.4 or 13.5 gallons, and the tank is supposed to only be 13.2!

This is all reminding me of that Top Gear episode where Jeremy drives a TT V8 diesel Audi A8 800 miles on a single tank.

Based on my previous fill-ups I would average as much as 33mpg (highest I reached) which is about 435 miles on the 13.2 tank. However, then you have about an extra gallon for inside the fuel lines and whatnot. So you can probably get to around 450 miles on a single tank.

You know, I almost feel tempted to try 500 miles on a single tank for a MCS.

My average MPG is 25.4 - given the 13.2gallon tank - thats erm 335 miles.

The absolute most I have ever seen was a little over 320.....

Oh, yeah, I forgot about my one time experiment. I got 358 miles with average speed of about 32 mph driving to work which gave me about 26 mpg fuel consumption. Of course this was excruciating as it took me two weeks to complete and all the driving was done under "the egg between my foot and the gas pedal" technique and never going above 3500 rpm. This was also in my MCc.

I've gottena few 400 tanks (max was 411 and a 406, can't remember the other one) on an S filling up in the 13.5-13.7 range I've been on track to a much more significant tank but filled up at the 3/4 mark as I could have easily ended up a two hour drive from the nearst 91 octance, and well if it takes two hours driving I didn;t want to find out what it takes walking. Max fillup was 13.761 I think I still have the recipet for that one some where but the MPG kinda sucked until I saw I was next to empty. 14.2 is the tank + fuel lines based on reports of those who have run clean out of gas.

Sounds like something to strive for, but I know I'll never make it... my foot seems to be too heavy at times

I've done 436 on tank and it was during MTTS runs. Highway, no a/c, cruise set to 70, 5th gear and drafting (within a safe distance) behind the big rigs!

On average I'm at 390-405 a tank, I recently put 13.2 gallons in the tank so I was bone dry when I pulled in to full up.

Motor, If that 14.2 number is correct, then pushing 400 for me Tankly is very possible.

I'm doing a nice 3000 mile trip next week and I'll be interested to see what numbers I produce over the highway.

I've come extremely close to 400, I think probably around 385, but haven't gone over yet. I have the onboard computer, and it usually TELLS me that I can get 425-450 out of my tank, but by the time it hits 350-360, the fuel indicator gets a little too close for comfort and I have to refill.

I've had the car for a little under two months. I'm driving up to San Francisco in 3 weeks, so I should be able to top 400 on that trip.

I should be able to do 500 miles (with a MC) on a long highway trip. Maybe next spring on the way to the Dragon!
