And to Edge: Why not?
Haha - nothing like a little HGTTG to lighten the day. Speaking of which, I actually thought the new movie was pretty decent for a modern remake.

Why not? That's not an answer. Why not watch paint dry? Why not count blades of grass on your lawn? Why not listen to crickets at night to see how many of them you can identify?

If an activity is pointless (in someone's view), saying "why not" doesn't really satisfy the "why" question... it's a cheap way to deflect the argument. You're supposed to answer it with the real reason YOU decided to do it.

Hey, I guess if you get something out of it, all the power to you. Doesn't make me want to do it though.

The way I see it, you have two choices:

1) Take the 233 number that you slyly tried to sling onto me.
2) Just claim 420 for yourself and start using it. Who cares? Who said that all of the prior numbers had to be taken first? Who sets these rules anyway? Are there any rules?

LOL - what a trip. I, as simply a casual observer of this apparent "club with no rules", hereby declare, just for the heck of it, that SCMCS is MMC #420.

There, now you have a declaration. Heh. Congratulations!

[/cynicmode]

Now, I'm off to go and create another NAM account with the name "SCMCS420", just to trump you...

(note to moderators - I'm JOKING... I'm not going to break NAM Community Rule #12)

NAM - the REAL community, with REAL rules! YEAH!

Sorry but it wasn't me that wanted 420 that was koolmini.

But now that you mention it your right who said the numbers needed to be given out sequentially?

I now declare the adult swim over all kids can jump in the pool.

koolmini gets #420 and I’ll take #318

Oops, wrong number, but yeah you got my point. And thanks for proving it too.

Fun for some, sure... but still pointless IMO. Enjoy it, I guess!

It’s no big deal really. Just another thing to pass the time while at work.

Let’s see what M Power has to say about my number queue jumping.

I actually have done 2 out of 3 of the above. It's definetly better than vegging in front of the TV watching infomercials. And you learn somehting about yourself and the surroundings. You should try it sometime, really does wonders!

And thanks for getting the 42. I was wondering who'd mention it first. hehe.

As far as membership goes, it's just like most off topic threads, it gives you somehting to talk about, it's just more MINI relevant.

What's the point? Seriously, I have yet to see any real reason to participate. The number is arbitrary, and it's not as though being "in" MMC has any benefit whatsover beyond putting the number into your signature. There are no newsletters, no separate meetings or gatherings, no special discounts or benefits.

If people are looking for a sense of individuality with their own unique number, well... guess what, you already have that - it's your NAM username, and it's the most unique and individual way to identify yourself here on NAM, something that will remain yours and only yours, not to be confused with anyone else.

If people are looking for bragging rights, because their number is lower than someone else's... I'm sorry, but that's just childish and honestly, quite pathetic.

I don't mean to ruin anyone else's fun (although if I'm ruining your fun, you have bigger problems - people should be responsible for their own sense of "fun"), and I'm a pretty easygoing, friendly guy (as I'm sure those here who have met me will attest), but again, I simply have to ask...

WHY?

To borrow from good fellow man (and DCMM president) Michael Babischkin (mbabischkin)'s signature, "I am not a number! I am a free man!"

Edge

P.S. No, I'm not trolling... I really am perplexed by the whole idea.
ETC....

Geez...for something so pointless, you sure put in a lot of time, energy and thought in refuting it...

Minis are FUN - that's why we bought them, that's why we do pointless and silly things like assign ourselves pointless numbers in a pointless thread! Because in a world where things seem to get crazier and more hectic every day, we can have fun, laugh a little at ourselves and be like kids again.

So relax! And maybe you'll live longer....

Well said!

Oh, and by the way Edge, check post #1... numbers DO have to fill up consecutively. Apparently you don't understand the thread because you don't anything about it. Check facts before you argue against them... Now onto bigger and better things, Nice car! lol

Actually your NAM VIN would be 17544... That would be your registration number assigned to you when you registered on NAM. Besides, since VIN numbers aren't assigned arbitrarily but these numbers are, your NAM registration number would be more accurate.

Heck, using your NAM registration number would actually be much more fair too, as that is assigned based on when you registered as opposed to when you actually decided that you wanted to wade through this thread. Which would mean that those who've been here since the early days of MCO would rightly get the lower numbers...

BTW, did anybody actually bother to check with the OWNER of NAM before this club was created? Since you're using North American Motoring (or even NAM) in the name of a club, maybe it would have been a good idea to check with the owner of the name North American Motoring before using it?

Oh come on, Michael. Plenty of other clubs have formed on NAM. Why does MMC bother you?

There's a difference between forming on NAM or because of NAM and using NAM in the name of the group...

And Pat, I have enough numbers assigned to me, why do I need to voluntarily assign one to myself for no reason or benefit?

So you don't have a Social Security number? A drivers license number? A credit card number? A phone number? A bank account number? An employe identification number? Maybe even a Sunshine MINIs member number?

The difference, like Edge mentioned earlier, those numbers all have a purpose. As everyone who has followed lemming like to get a number has pointed out... This one doesn't...

Who says my MMC number doesn't have a purpose? My number means 141 others before me thought it was good fun to take part in this pointless exercise. You call it being a lemming, I call it a collective activity inspired by the shared bliss of Mini ownership!

Nah. Sorry, clubs are only enjoyable when they are started in the spirit of fun, not sarcasm

You can be a "whoo hoo" all on your own
