Recommendations on a OBD2 Scanner/Diag. Tool

I'm looking for recommendations on a OBD2 Scanner/Diag. Tool for my new to me 05 MCS.

I'd like to see what brands everyone is using or what brands/models to stay away from.

From looking at many different models in different price ranges it seems the more "special functions/ service resets / dealer level service levels" or what ever they call them. Some even say they can read write to ECU.

I'm a bit of a shade tree mechanic but have never worked on any Mini, only my BMW E30 325is. Don’t want to spend more than I have to, but I don't want to get one and then wish it had more functions.

Looking at maybe the Foxwell NT510 or NT710, any input will be appreciated

I use my schwaben tool all the time. What needs noted is the older the MINI = the less functions you have and show, newer the MINI = more functions show up on the screen selection after in a vehicle.

For what you have the professional hand unit will be best.

I have the Schwaben 14020SCH. I worked very well and did everything I needed for my 2015 R60. I now have a 2018 F60 and it does not provide as many functions. I see that ECS has this same unit as Recommended and there is a 2023 updated version, which works for 2018/19 Minis?
I tried to register my unit with Foxwell for an upgrade and it did not accept my serial number. I contacted Foxwell and the response I got was that my unit is discontinued and no longer supported!?
One of my main reasons for purchasing the Schwaben is BMW/Mini specific and advertised as upgradable.
I am disappointed at the response from Foxwell, their recommendation was to ‘upgrade ‘ to an NT530plus.

I have always appreciated the excellent responses from ECS Tuning on this forum and wonder if you could shed some light on the supposed discontinued 14020SCH scanning tool by Schwaben (Foxwell).

Thank you

Yep, seems like foxwell did a bunch of updated units physically, one after the next really close together. When they did that the older units can only be updated so much and so often till they cant.

Its like the factory carplays on most auto cars, you bought a car in 2017-2018 you might not have carplay and the manufacture no longer has updates on the old head unit with the older navigation. Same thing.

Our newest work for the latest of course.

You can reach out to us and let our sales team know and can work a deal on a newer one.

Very disappointed that Foxwell will not permit an update of the Schwaben 14020SCH, which it appears is still available for sale and advertises as upgradable. The reason I purchased the Foxwell unit was because of the ability to update it. If there is a 2023 version of the same model, why would they not have an upgrade available?
Last response from Foxwell: ‘Sorry, this is an old product that has been discontinued and is no longer under maintenance.’ Hmmm, so why are they still selling it?….and not telling you that upgrades are NOT available.
I will be looking at other alternatives rather than Foxwell/Schwaben.

It sure would be nice if someone could forward an updated TF card so that I can continue using my Schwaben 14020SCH with my newer mini F60. I asked Foxwell and they have no interest in helping me….maybe ECS Tuning?

We just have the newest units. It looks like it was a hardware and software update. 2023 edition+ with upgrades in the future. We dont carry the little SD/TF card on its own. Reach out to our sales team and they can help you on a new one.
