First Oil Change
what did the dealer tell you? I'm pretty sure they said "when the computer tells you"
old school folks believe you need a quick oil change on a new car to clean out the swarf of a new engine ..... this is OLD SCHOOL and modern production does not require this on a new engine ...... but this is often not sufficient to convince an old timer. My MINI owner's manuals have had a section about 'break in' ..... does yours? Mine never mentioned an oil change . . .
old school also scoffs at extended interval oil change and says EVERY 3000 MILES .... and Jiffy Lube and oil companies LOVE THIS .... despite the many many references that you can easily find that full synthetic can go 8, 10, 12 THOUSAND miles ....... MINI calls for full synthetic (if you don't use full syn' the computer is meaningless so far as oil changes)
I've been a MINI owner since they first came to the US and I change my oil by the computer / factory <and use full synthetic> (and currently since we don't typically drive the MINI over 10,000 a year that means ANNUALLY) just had the R59 done today now that you ask. Never had an oil consumption issue ... 02S, 07S, 15R59S
Now my Mini (79) .... different story .... old school technology ..... I have a magnetic oil bung and every time I pull THAT it holds significant swarf .... but as you know the oil sump on a classic Mini is what also lubricates the transmission . . . . one of the 'wonders' of the classic . . . HERE I DO every 3000 .. cept I don't do 3000 a year .... so I do annual . . .

There's free oil changes at the dealership every 10k/1 year and I space my own oil changes around 5k. I'm pretty sure I did an initial change around 1-2k.
To me, I don't mind doing the work and it costs something like $30-40. When I'm changing the oil, I use that time to make sure everything else looks good.
I use to do the very first oil change at 500 mls, the second near 1000 mls, third at about 2500 mls, then every 5000 mls. That's approximately half of what the OLM tells me. I prefer running LL-04 approved oil, currently Ravenol REP 5W-30 btw.
That said, first manual transmission oil change at 2500 mls, then every 30,000 mls afterwards. Same procedure on every car, no matter what make.

I bought a used 2019 JCW Countryman. It's first oil change was at the selling dealership when it had 900 miles, because that was one year from the purchase date. The next oil change was done shortly after I bought it (it had less than 1300 miles when I bought it...original buying couple simply didn't drive this car hardly any for 1.5 years!), which was about 7 months after the first change, when it had somewhere around 2500 miles. I just wanted to work on it...don't think it was necessary. I'm changing it every 5000 miles, and I'll drive it 12-15,000 miles/year. Just now hitting 15,500 miles, and I still have 1 year and 4 months of factory warranty and nearly 34,500 more miles under warranty.
Due to the used car prices being so high, I could sell my car to Carvana and pocket 5,500 more than I paid for the car. A big problem: the local dealership has only ONE new Mini, and it's not a Countryman...which is what I'd be interested in. Besides, I've done so many things to my current one, it has become more than a machine. I may keep it as a second car to tinker on when I retire.
