Quick question, I have a 2012 Clubman S M6, over the last couple weeks it developed a low volume high pitch noise when accelerating, kind of like the noise an AM radio used make in the old days. I thought maybe it was coming from the transmission but this evening I was almost out of gas, down to about 40 miles left (usually don’t do that but was not paying attention) pulled into a gas station and saw that they had ethanol free, 93 octane available within a couple miles the noise went away, drove about 40 miles it did not come back. Is it possible the E-free fuel did something to fix it and it was not the tranny. I posted in a FaceBook group and someone said it may have something to do with the HPFP...thoughts?
Well could be. In my early MINI years, I learned about NOT using Top Tier the hard way and high percentages of ethanol could have caused your problem. If you're not familiar here are two useful web sites.

Thanks, familiar with both of those websites, I live in Ohio and there are very few places to get E-free gas. I’m at my house in western NC and a lot of stations have it, this is the first time I have seen it at the regular pumps, most stations have a total separate pump. This is the first time I drove the mini down here, going to keep using this while I’m down here and see what happens.
Just be careful using e-free in your car. In many states (like here in Florida) it is illegal to use e-free in your car. It is for boats and off-road vehicles and generators only. If a cop sees you filling up with it, they can issue you a hefty fine. That said, ethanol is horrible for your engine life and reduces mpg. It's use is 100% political.

Purchased it at a regular gas station where it was the only option for 93 octane on every pump.

DID NOT know that. Makes me rethink a potential road trip down to Key West for a revisit. Posted down there, Navy back in '68, driving a TR roadster back then with a great club, EVSCC. I think they're still active.

Got a reference for this? Cuz I did a lil digging and find NOTHING
When I fill the 79 with E-Free I never get a second look and the WaWa down the road from me (Cape Canaveral area) sees WAY more automobile business than any thing else with nary a cop to watch or care .... I would think if there was a chance of trouble a chain like WaWa would have BIG warning signs!
AT ONE TME there was a FL law requiring stations to sell E-Free but that was repealed in 2013 "just signed into law HB4001, which repeals the state's Renewable Fuel Standard as of July 1, 2013."
Personally I think it is a waste of money for anything but OLD ..... newer motors of all sorts no longer use the materials in the seals that the eth' caused to break down, most E-Free in FL is lower octane that what you can get otherwise and costs significantly more. I use an additive in my 79 now <deals with the eth' ... see eastwood.com>. None of my Mini, MG, Triumph, Jag, Healy buddies use E-Free anymore <I've asked> ..... had the 79 for 17 years now and no problems from gas except bad ping and run-on when I get fuel that is NOT the claimed OCTANE (which curiously happened several times when I was buying E-Free <at off name stations> drained that and refilled with E' gas from a top tier and SUPRISE SUPRISE SUPRISE ... NO ping or run on {never touched the carb})

I don’t think this is true. I’m pretty sure in most states I’ve been do there is nothing about e-free being illegal to use in a car. I’m not counting Florida as a state I’ve been to - never been, never want to go
My local sinclair stations have non-ethanol 92 octane. I have been using this for the last 2 tanks and think it gives a bit more power and mileage. At 4.60/gallon it's a bit steep , but it's enough of a difference that I am willing to pay the extra 30 cents/gallon.
Forgive the hijack. I remember paying 29 cents a gallon. Riding with a co-worker some years later we passed a station showing 79 cents. I said to him "It ain't never gonna hit a dollar."
