2015 Hardtop Dolly Towing - Wiring lights
Greetings,
I'm dolly-towing a 2015 Mini Hardtop (4 door, automatic, front wheel drive), and would like to wire in a flat 4 connector to operate the vehicle tail lights in sync with my RV lights rather than magnetically attaching the "mouse ears".
What is the theory for this wiring? Do I splice in at the lights, or is there a main control module I can splice into?
I disconnect the (+) side of the battery and wrap the connector to insulate it. Otherwise, the car turns on when the front wheels turn on the dolly. I assume the RV has enough amperage to drive the tail lights on the Mini, but I don't have enough elec. knowledge to understand whether or not the battery on the Mini needs to be connected or not connected.
I'd like to end up with a flat 4 behind the grille on the Mini I can "jumper" to the second flat 4 on the tow rig socket (there are two...one is a 4 and one is a 5-conductor connection).
After flat towing, the car now makes a very slight "burning rubber" smell. Any ideas on what that might be? Drives fine and no error messages (since I disconnected the battery).
Thank you for any guidance you may provide.
Kind regards,
Jim Fischer
