Replacement Key Activation
Replacement Key Activation
We are in the process of acquiring a replacement key for our 2012 Countryman S and from what I can gather from the MINI service department, all I need to do once the key is delivered to me by mail is put it in the ignition and it will work. To place the order for the key I needed to send a copy of my registration card which has the VIN. Did MINI use that information to preprogram my new key so that it would work on my Countryman, or does my vehicle put information on the new key? Or another way to ask the same question, how does it come to pass that this new key will be specific to my Countryman?
The factory made the car... they have all that info already... you just need to prove that you own that car and have the right to request a new key ..
After providing all the ownership documentation....I ordered a new fob for my my Mini(s) from minipartsdirect.com for approx $150 ... got it in About a week... put it in my ignition ... and, VIOLA... it works 🤙
