Thinking about buying an R50

I have owned 4 MINIs, 3 S's and currently a '19 JCW. I have enjoyed each one. I am thinking about buying an R50 5-speed. I am looking for a decent car, knowing that there will be some surprises.
Can you guys give me some ideas on what to look for and what to look out for?

Get the 2005 or 2006 so you will have the Getrag 5 speed vs the midlands transmission of the 2002-2004. Also, you will have the updated bumpers and features. Good luck on the search.
