Why can't I do a la cart ordering any more?

Why can't I do a la cart ordering any more?
I confess that I haven't bought a new mini since 2005, but today I thought I'd play with the online build-your-own to see what I could come up.
And it seems that those days of picking and choosing all of your options individually are gone. Now I have to pick from 3 trim levels (2-door S) which limits my color choices, option choices, and makes me feel like I'm on the BMW site picking between grey, dark grey and light grey.
Is the magic gone?
