Parasitic Draw Tip

Hello MINI Owners

I am new to the forum with my 2002 MINI R50. I thought i would kill two birds with one stone and introduce myself and offer a tip.

I was checking for a parasitic draw on my MINI which turned out to be an old battery which needs to be replaced. Before disconnecting the battery I thought I would be smart and open both doors so that the windows would drop approximately a 1/4" so that if I needed to close the doors I could without them hitting at the top. The problem is that when I went to hook up the multimeter in amp mode with the doors closed the windows tried to operate up a 1/4" which draws way too much current for the multimeter fuses to handle and I blew both fuses in my meter in the process.

So if I were to check for parasitic draw again I would follow the same steps again with an additional step of pulling the power window fuses after disconnecting the negative battery cable.

On a side note, it is a huge PIA to find replacement fuses for a Bluepoint Multimeter:
5x20mm 2A 600V ceramic fast blow fuse
5x20mm 10A 600V ceramic fast blow fuse

Great site, already learning a lot here!!
