parasitic draw on battery
parasitic draw on battery
Recap:
My car was towed to dealer Saturday morning, because Friday after work, it would not start...all lights on dash lit up erratically, faded, got brighter, faded, etc. Also, the two huge relay fuses at the driver side footwell would click crazily while the key was on the START position. Also, the left headlight stayed lit, even though the car was off. The car was just acting crazy electrically.
Dealer checks it out on Saturday morning and says the Power Steering Pump failed, which caused all that electrical nonsense. They also surmised that the battery was dead due to a parasitic draw from the faulty PS Pump. They replaced the PS Pump and recharged the battery. Everything should be fine, right? wrong.
Monday the dealer calls and says "you've got a new PS Pump and a fully charged battery...but we're still getting a parasitic draw on the battery, and we want to get to the bottom of it...so we need it another day."
Any mechanics / electrical engineers on NAM have any idea what could be the cause???
Thanks,
-boognish

speak of the devil...
Ten minutes after I posted, that dealer called.
They said they replaced the Power Steering Pump, gave me a brand new battery, and also replaced something called the "Power Supply."
What is that???? Never heard of a power supply on a car...other than the battery.
I pick it up later this evening (it's a 65 mile drive, each way).
Fingers crossed this is the first and last trip to the dealer this year.
best,

I dunno boognish... but thanks for updating your own post.... Please fill us in when you learn more, it helps build the NAM archives!
I would guess that the power supply would be their term for generating all the other voltages needed for the car electronics (BC1 computer, ect...) maybe just +5Vdc, but probably other voltages as well.
