screen for S hood opening?

looking at my 05 S from the front it looks like a screen of some type would look nice in the front hood scoop
wondered if others have done this mod
i think the second gen minis have a screen already or one i saw was modified

trying to figure a way to attach and what material to use

thanks

Hello,

There is an actual intercooler on the gen 1 as the gen 2 its was for a heat vent and styling. I seen people use a mesh type chrome cover overlay which has a mesh style grille in it:

Or they have cut metal mesh to shape and stuck it in there.

I also wondered about a screen for the scoop.....I thought about getting a piece of the rear bumper screen and cut to fit

I got the screen for my M7 scoop from Mini Fini. Comes in black or stainless IIRC.

gutter screen from Home Despots and about 5 minutes with a pair of good snips ....

I also took the black plastic fake screen off the back bumper and replace with the same stuff. Looks like the AERO kit but a fraction of the cost.

1 screen piece, stainless steel, 6 inches by 36 inches is enuf for both projects and costs $2.29 .... Fiskars snips under $15 and will last a lifetime

I did the same for the hood scoop on my R55. Although stainless, it's not shiny, so if shiny bling is your thing then the polished stainless insert from MiniFini is a better aesthetic choice. Way Motor Works sells them at a good price.

I used about $1.00 worth of chicken fence wiring and have a bunch left over. Only made one and it's been on there for many years. Measure and cut approximately. You can bend this stuff to fit. Careful not to poke your fingers.
