2009 JCW with blown engine, worth it?

I can pick up a good condition, what looks like a well taken care of (body and interior looks great) for $1,600

It looks like used replacement motors (not JCW engines) are around $2,600

Would a car like this be worth if from a financial standpoint?

I can either part it out or fix / replace engine and sell it running.

Car is a Hardtop.

Parted out what do you think it would be worth and are the parts desirable?

Car was overheated.

Thank you so much and I am supposed to look at the car in the morning so I hope I get some feedback here tonight.

My advice is unless you own an auto salvage business to leave the "parting out" of cars to those that do.

Who wants a large lump of tin sitting on his driveway or in his garage and strangers coming over every once in a while to yank a piece of hardware off the car. Probably damaging other parts in the process. Scouting out your garage, its selection of tools and other hardware.

Or someone hurts himself and sues you. Your home owners insurance might balk at covering you if you are running some kind of business from your house.

If you are going to buy a JCW roller then fit a non-JCW engine in the car I have to ask why?

Surely there are plenty of running non-JCW Mini's to be had that you can just gas and go with no work required.

If you are going to buy a JCW roller than you should have a source for a suitable JCW engine lined up and at a price that makes the purchase of the roller coupled with the price of a the engine comparable to you just searching out a suitable running JCW.

If I was good at wrenching, had the time, had the space and wanted a fun car when I got done to play with. I would buy it. With the turbo, you can get some HP with a tune and if lucky only the block is bad so you can reuse allot of the existing parts.

How many miles on it? Rod go through the block, engine seized?

it'll be an S with some jcw parts, you did not mention miles but a 100k/mile S goes for 6k here

the engines are not that much different, if you have the jcw turbo/ecu then it's an S with jcw turbo. If the jcw head is good swap that on, that's most of the difference and it's all reliability tweaks

the labor kills resale profit if you are paying someone else to swap it for you

100k, motor now 'cranks slowly' so thinking block warped or something bad.

Replacement 'S' motors are running around $3k, so I think putting a motor in this and selling it just isn't worth it as if anything else is wrong then there will be no profit to be made.

I think parting it out would be the safest bet but still not sure if that is much worth it.

As for the poster above who had concerns of a car sitting in my driveway, ect... I do not live in a HOA neighborhood, I live on a nice chunk of property out in the Country and would be pulling parts myself (in my large workshop) and shipping them out. There are a lot of Mini's in my area as I live near "Tail of the dragon"

If it was just an S I would say not worth it. But being a JCW I would rebuild it as it would be a great car and likely worth what you put in it.

Well, if you wouldn't have visitors coming by that's a bit different.

But really is there all that much money to made parting out the the car to make it worth your effort/time?

Some items will likely go quick then the others will just sit and sit and sit. I visited a Porsche salvage business near me a couple of times and was taken in the warehouse to help spot what I was looking for. Lots of items on the shelves with years of dust on them. You can have some part of the car around a long long time.

I would do it if the price is right. If its a loaded version JCW, that would make the choice even easier.
