Question about replacement keys

So on our last Mini ( 2017 MCS "7" ) we only had one key. So I went to E-bay and ordered up a set of two new keys from a parts recycler to see about getting those reprogrammed to be used w/ our MCS.

Long short they showed up in great condition and as soon as I spoke with the dealer about having them reprogrammed for our car was told that this was not possible...

So - now I have two keys that I'm not sure what to actually do with. Was this / is this the case where the keys are not able to be coded to the car and the only replacement option is ordering "new" ones from the dealer?

What can be done w/ these here - their in great shape but don't work with anything that I even own!

As I recall from other threads, it's the dealer or the highway..

This is a continuing scam. Do everyone a favor and leave a negative review on eBay.

r54coop is looking for input on ideas. Here's one: Put a great big banner where useless advertisements show up that directs late comers to a page explaining the MINI key situation. There is a multitude of threads already on the forum explaining this very problem of folks buying worthless keys.
To the OP: Contact your nearest dealer providing your VIN, a copy of your DL and registration. They will order a new key and let you know when you can pick it up. You can scan and email that information...the voice of experience.

Thanks all - The Keys were purchased before I knew about the site which would have been helpful if I'd known about it.

I did buy them off LKQ's EBay site to which as soon as I said that there was an issue there was no push back on the refund, and they said that I could keep the keys if I wanted. Makes me wonder if they know about the issue and are hoping that people just eat it after the fact? Who knows.

Again thanks for the reply, and yes - there was a comment left but not negative about the seller as they shipped quick as well as refunded quick. I did put in there that MINI owners should pass it by and go to the dealer being that this would not help them out for what their looking to do ( Get replacement keys )

With that being said, can you point me ( and others ) in the direction of the sponsor so that I can bookmark them for the next thing that may come up ?

Welcome.
You can get the codded stuff, like keys or the combox for the keys(theft related stuff) at your local MINI dealership. When you go to the dealership make sure you take all your info info and proof of ownership. They will need that to make the new keys.

Everything else you can get from us.
