Insurance for 2006 MCS with JCW upgrades

I have a 2006 MCS with all the JCW upgrades. Was just told at my insurance brokers office that my insurance MERCURY will not insure the upgrades. They consider them as performance. These upgrades cost over 6000.00. Would like it to be covered by my insurance company. Has anyone had this problem? Do I need to find a insurance that does. Please help

Is it a factory or dealer installed JCW kit? Or is it just parts installed by you? If the car left a dealer, or the factory, with the JCW kit installed, then it is a MCS JCW, and your insurance company should have no reason at all for not insuring it as such

I wouldn't have even told them about the mods personally. You could always add a rider to your plan, but it'd be pricey.

Are you considering the cost of labor too, or just parts?

If any of my vehicles were ever in an accident they'd never pay out what they're worth in the cost of purchase and mods installed, but that is just a price you pay when you decide to modify the car.

Some insurance companies will allow you to pay up for mods and others might ding you for having mods which they associate with higher likelihood of accidents. Pick yer poison.

I would make sure that they understand that these are OEM parts that are equivalent to a factory Mini Cooper S JCW and not aftermarket accessories. Probably shouldn't have told them about it though.

KBB only adds $2,100 to the value of a 2006 MCS for the JCW Tuning Kit.

Spoke with my insurance company today again. I was told that it would not cover upgrades unless car came from factory with upgrades. So for now my car is insured as a 2006 MCS only. My question now is. What company should I go with now.

I have GEICO, and they've been very good about insuring the aftermarket parts on my car. I called them a couple of years ago to discuss adding extra coverage, and they were happy to help. I told them what I'd added (wheels, exhaust manifold, cam, exhaust, etc.) and the dollar value for each part. They added a rider or addendum to cover me for the replacement cost of all parts for a very reasonable additional fee to my monthly premium.

I did a bit of insurance shopping at the time, and found that eSurance was also willing to insure modified cars.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm didnt know that about Gieco, but there was someone who posted that they lost coverage entirely for having mods, Oh I think they mentioned going to the track you drive very conservatively of coarse

No normal insurance will cover you at the track. You'd have to have specialty coverage.

Go to a different insurance company and forget the broker you are currently using.

Ask if they insure a vehicle if it has special equipment. Special equipment is the JCW upgrade kit. You don't have to get into details about horse power and such.

If they ask, tell them its a factory upgrade kit and you show them the work order and the invoice for the kit parts.

Hope this works.
