What do I get????

Hello I'm new to the forums and the mini world,
My r53 cooper s (six speed) needs a new motor and I want more power. I would ideally want at least a 300hp motor. The problems I have been encountering are size and price (I do plan on installing myself). I don't need 300hp but I would really like it to be up in that range. I also am not really to enthusiastic for honda motors. (picky I know) If anybody has any information on a good power motor that will fit and not cost a fortune that would be amazing. Thank you!

Congrats and welcome. From the things I've been reading, it'll be tough to get that kind of power with the supercharged engine and the little bit of room there is.

Looks like you're stepping out of the built up W11 range here and thinking of alternate ideas. You wanting the HP... or the Torque? You could probably count on one hand the amount of 300hp Mini's that are out there or on this forum.

I think you'd be surprised with what a 250whp W11 can do. That's a not-too-uncommon level of improvement with aftermarket parts available around here. Get yourself into one and you may not feel the need to push past the 250 range. I was in a 220whp one and I know its well more than anything I'd ever want for my use.

I guess it also depends on what kind of integration back to OEM you're looking for. If you want to maintain the gauges, computers, sensors and such you're left with the bored, stroked, cam, crank, injector and supercharger upgrades that are the improvements.

With that much power requested, you should outline what your driving goals are: Street (seriously?), Drag Strip, Rally, Auto X

Since you're travelling into areas that not many have gone, why not go even more crazy and go electric? Lots of fun there I bet.

These cars don't need the massive HP numbers. It's about the twisties

It would also help to tell us where you're from. Up in Canada it's even harder to get some items (I have a W11 for sale if you want lol)

Also, if you're keeping stock running gear, you're really going to lessen the reliability and driveablity at huge numbers like that (that's a lot to ask of those front wheels)

I suppose this would be a good time to show something like this

Yah, it's not an R53, but it goes to show that it's not always about HP.

Welcome aboard! The R53 is a great basis for tuning and driving. It will keep a smile on your face! There are many stages of tuning, starting with a Sprint Booster and reduced pulley to exhaust systems and suspension. We help with all stages, and there are some informative links here. Please let us know if we can help!

Anyone who was privileged to see the legendary Bill Brack chase down big bore cars in the Trans-Am in North America and sedan series in Canada know the Mini-Cooper is a giant killer.
