Parking Inside or Outside
Parking Inside or Outside
I think this is the right place to post, since it is generally Mini related.
This will be my first winter with 2 Minis. Last year I stored the R57 in the garage, and kept my beater car in the driveway. Now that we have the second Mini, I want to be a little nicer tot he car (and stay a bit warmer)
I was considering a 4-post lift for the garage, putting the R57 in the air and the R56 underneath. Total cost will be around $4,000.
On the other hand, I could continue to scrape windows for a few more years and save money for mods (which I really won't be doing until the warranty runs out any how).
So, I know this is a first world problem, but what are your opinions on the value of parking inside through the winter?

I had a 98 540I that spent 6 years inside a garage except for 3 really cold winter days outside. It was the only time the car wouldn't start, after the 3 day chill.
However, $4K for a lift, only if I could comfortably afford to do so otherwise outside with a cover perhaps, battery tender, heater or whatever needed to keep it in running shape.

It is like $3k for the lift, $1k for garage mods. The lift can be used for car work also.
The driveway setup won't support a carport.
I thought about covering and such, but that would require a wash each night because I wouldn't put a cover on a dirty car.
I could look into storing the R57 offsite for 6 months.

Indoor storage makes a big difference in maintaining the condition of a car. The lift is worth it if you use it diligently all year to store both cars indoors. Would you get lazy and not use it during better weather?
