General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
problem is they are usually vinyl and if your car lives outside (no garage) they don't hold up well, especially the lighter colors will get dull and begin to show spots
we had silver stripes on our R-59 and after about 2 years they looked like crap so I removed them.
In general, I'm not a huge fan of stripes on most cars. But stripes seem to fit the Mini so well. It's almost like something is missing without them. Mine came without stripes and I just had some added today. Since it was custom, I decided to keep the classic look but not a factory color (royal blue with silver).
I had boot stripes added with my bonnet stripes (you can see those up a couple of posts). They are "royal blue" with silver outlines. I would say a negative, if you look closely, is that the area around the Cooper S logo isn't well cut. You have to be close to see it though. (My wife thinks I'm just being crazy.) If they need to be redone in the future, I would consider debadging it before replacing the stripes (and maybe rebadging depending on how much work that takes).
My MINI dealership has an outside vendor stripe their cars. So I had him do mine. He didn't charge too much and I figure it was worth the extra to be able to see the colors in person since I went with non-OEM colors. It would have been $200 for the bonnet stripes and he charged an extra $50 when I mentioned that I wanted boot stripes (or *** stripes, as my wife calls them) too. He did my car right in the same area that he was doing several ones for the dealership.
The blue *** stripes look great. I think the installer tried to do a detailed cut around the logo. Don't sweat it, enjoy the stripes. I have seen that stripe cut straight across above and below the logo. The white center stripe also looks great. Matches the center hood stripe, I assume. I need the wider spaced stripes like the blue stripes.
Mini's are made for stripes! They just look better with them and help personalize them to you! Some owners like them, without the stripes, but they are the few, not the many! After all, these are quirky cars, own by quirky people! LOL!
