Solution to a problem.

Hello fellow MINIacts! I just want to share a solution to a phenomenon which was troubling me for months. I'm taking about that slight and sporadic throttle delay on take-off from first gear. Suffice to say, I went through the following to stumble upon a nice fix.

1- Asked MINI to check for this which they said everything was fine.

2- Purchased a SprintBooster which appeared to fix the issue, but kept throwing a CEL so it was returned.

3- Someone suggested a CAI system for better throttle response. I listed and purchased this product: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...rod=69-2024TTK

4- The car drives like night and day compared to before. It's sooooooo much fun to drive now and no hesitation at all. PROBLEM FIXED!!!

On a separate note, I made the mistake of letting my wife know Zippy can reach 100mph with absolute ease. She wants my brand new Passport Max gone as she feels it's conducive to me speeding.

So, what do you guys think a fair asking price for that device (have box and everything that came with it). Again, it's like new and I paid $550.00 for it. Any idea what would be a good price to sell it for?

Here it is: https://www.escortradar.com/passportmax/ showing the price I paid.

Regards,
David

Honestly, I'd say to check what it's going for on ebay and similar sites... If there isn't a market for it, them list it for $500 or best offer and see what you get.

That aside, the wifey is out of her mind if she thinks a PassortMax is going to lighten up that foot of yours. lol :D

Thanks Centium. I'm going to list it on eBay for $450.00 shipped with tracking. I believe it should sell without a problem since it's in brand new condition.

I agree on the lightening of the foot. But my Max saved me a few times and she feels if I get hit in the pocket once (not to mention points on my license), I'll back off pretty darn fast. I have to agree. I'm doing it mostly so she doesn't worry. With season in Florida, we've had several accidents (some fatal) and I prefer she remains at ease.

Cheers,
David

I posted it on eBay for $475.00 to see if it sells:

For sale: Practically BRAND NEW (used only 6 months) Passport Escort Max. Paid $549.99 will sacrifice for $475.00 shipped with tracking. I have it on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Escort-Passp...-/281570175913?

Post in the marketplace on NAM too. You can avoid the fee from eBay.

OK, I added it to that section of the board.

Thanks,

What's the logic in that?

It's up to you, but I would keep the Passport Max (or sell it and buy V1!), and list the wife !

You do know that speed is not the problem?

It's rapid deceleration that kills !

P.S.: V1 hard-wired in every car, all were gifts from my SO.

PS: I researched the radar thing and for done reason (can't remember where) I was under the impression the V1 wasn't as good as the Max. That's why I spent the extra $150 bucks on the max when I could have purchased a V1 for $399.

Hmmmmm. I wonder if the V1 resale would have been better. Oh well, lesson learned.

I have not been following the radar detector markets lately, but have been a very satisfied V1 owner for the past 15+ years. I usually buy brand new, hard-wire them into all my cars (including the minivan ;-), and then sell them on eBay when the new model comes out for the price of new - $20. Cheaper than upgrading old V1, which Valentine does offer as a service.

Just googled around, found the following:
http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/bes...-detector-new/
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...omparison-test

Looks like V1 is still the best on sensitivity, Passport Max is better on features.

Either one is better than driving naked, which is exactly how I feel in a rental car.

Afa. I sold the Passport Max on eBay for $399.00. It was just purchased last September so it's still under warrantee.

If my wife ever decides to let me have one again I *may* look into the V1. Not that there was anything wrong with the Max, it saved me MANY times. It just has a ton of features I never really used. Besides, I lost $150 on this sale and I'm not about to shell out another $150 to get a replacement. At $399 I only hope the V1 is everything it's made out to be.

Cheers!!
