Could use your thoughts - British Racing Green Roaster / Red Stripes-image.php2.jpgLooking for opinions.

My 2015 Cooper S Roadster has finally arrived on US soil. It is getting it's check over and some options put on at BMW distribution and then will head over to the dealership sometime late this week or next week.

I have tried to build this Roadster in a fashion that reflects the traditional roadsters of old. British Racing Green, Toffee Leather interior, Wood dash, trim, and steering wheel, Cocomats, chrome trim inside and out, etc. Looks good. See picture attached I found of one very similar - only differences is mine has white headlights rather than black, I will have black driving lights on front of grill, and this car pictured has black stripes.

My question is this - The not-so-traditional move is that I have ordered red stripes on mine which will be put at the dealership next week. Kinda a unique combination that I have not seen many of. I have seen 1-2 here on this site and the dealership has done a few on different models. It comes down to personal opinion and taste. I like it, but would like to get some more opinions before I go ahead and have them put them on. My options are put the red stripes on, switch to black stripes, or just leave stripes off - which while very traditional looking, comes off a little bland to me.

I have attached the picture from the build tool on MINI site as well. The only way I could get red stripes on the tool was to build a JCW - I have ordered an S though.

Anybody see this combo? Thoughts?

Thanks,

Matt

It's going to look... ahem, rather festive.

As much as I love red stripes, I don't on BRG.

Great combo BRG and Toffee or white w/toffee piping. Had one just like it for a loaner and if I had more garage room, would have purchased it when it was turned back in to the sales dept. few weeks later.

Stripes can always be removed as long as they are not applied before a 3M bra. One thing I have noticed about the MINI red stripes for the HT's and may hold true for the Coupe/Roadster is that If applied say over black or darker colors, (BRG included) the RED stripes tend to allow the darker colored paints to bleed through some. Only seen this with the red MINI stripes since that color vinyl MINI sells seems to be a bit more "translucent" than the others ( silver, black or white.) What happened in the case of the black R56 I we did, the red wasn't as red as it was before we applied it.

For some reason the Red vinyl for the Countryman is not same material and has worked just fine.

I have heard the stripes are easy to take off.

I am getting a Roadblock clear bra for entire hood put on. They have informed me that the bra will be cut into 3 pieces - left side of stripes, a strip in between the stripes, and then right side of stripes. So, I can change stripe colors down the road if I wanted to.

IMO as soon as you ask others "what do you think"

it tells me YOU are not sure ....and to me spending this much money on something that you don't LOVE is silly

My 07 was BRG with tan leather and wood grain .. classic look for sure. Actually I went to the dealer to order something else but checked the inbound list, saw this and put down a deposit when my brain said CLASSIC BRTISH. I had the white top and added the viper or 'sport' stripes at the last minute. Was VERY happy ... & without the approval of others . . .

but face it .. you already compromised ... you're buying a roadster ... nothing like a REAL Mini

If ya want a real roadster ... get a Miata! Had one for 12 years ... best car I've ever owned ...low maintenance cost and tons of fun ... in the words of a popular automotive magazine "the best British roadster ever made". I had a Miata and a MINI and a Mini in the garage for many years .... they were all different rides ... and all fun.

It would be unique at Christmas time but I still vote no. BRG is my favorite color and if and when I ever order a Mini that would be the color for me. I still have mixed feelings whether I'd go with white accents or black.

Yes, I asked because I not completely sure...haven't seen this combo live yet . I'm not in the habit of asking questions I know the answer to...THAT would be kinda silly.

As my post said - I like it from what I have seen (a couple pictures). asking if anyone else has seen it live or has any info to share.

GR's response about the reality of the red being more translucent and not as red was helpful.

OK...got what I needed to see...someone forwarded me this link.

While this car is much different than mine(I have the Toffee Interior, Chrome Mirrors and Rims, etc) it gives me the clearest view I have seen of the BRG/RED combo. All in. Love it. Thanks.

I like the BRG/Red combo -- in fact, I tried to order a JCW Clubman in BRG with the red roof. MINI wouldn't build it, although I have seen photos of at least one hardtop with that combo. In any case, I'd like to offer a suggestion: Instead of having the clear bra done in pieces around the stripes, have the clear bra done over the whole bonnet first, and then have the stripes on top of the clear. That way, if you decide to go another route later, the change will be easier to accomplish. Regardless, we want photos!
