Rotating tires

I have a 2014 countryman and it has on it the stock Perilli runflats. When I rotate the tires do I go left front to left rear and right right front to right rear or left front to left rear and left rear to right front and right front to right rear.

Did I confuse u enuff?

rotation of tires

Check out the Michelin site. It has a good diagram of all the options. Yours is either all wheel drive or just front wheel drive.

I'm not a 100% positive but I pretty sure, the Mini 4 wheel drive runs in the front wheel mode most of the time until the front wheels start to slip and then the power begins to transferred to the rear wheels. So front wheel drive tire rotation pattern is what you need. Most all wheel drives systems are that way but there are some where the rear wheels are the normal driver and power shifts to the front when the rear wheels start to lose traction.

Front wheels are crossed and sent to the rear and the rears stay on the same side and go forward.

My MA said to rotate from front to rear. The CM Manual states the same "rotate between the axles"--which I read as front to rear.:
This assumes you are using OEM tire sizes with the same size front and rear.

I just did my ALL4. The outside of the fronts were pretty worn (need more camber!)

Anyway, I always bring the backs directly forward (rr to rf, lr to lf)

I when I take the fronts to the rear, I swap them (rf to lr, lf to rr)

Hope that helps!

I do front to rear only. Plus, if you have directional tires you can only do front to back anyway.

Front to rear works fine! Every 5000 miles.

Its mostly true that you should rotate front to back. Crossing the rears and putting them on the front is the traditional way and is recommended if you have symmetrical tires. Tire Rack told me to cross the Conti DW and rotate every 3000 miles. Not 5000 food such a soft tire. I reconfirmed too.

YMMV

2010 MCSC Chili Red - 6-Speed, Sport and Convenience Packages, Conti DW, Black Star 17", Leatherette, Base Stereo :-(, Ipod/Bluetooth, NM Torque Bushing, Sport Antenna, Blackout (Grill and Taillight surrounds, Side Scuttles), Polk Audio Speakers, BSH Oil Can and Boost Tap, H-Sport 19mm Rear Sway Bar, DoS CAI v2, JIC Strut Brace, Helix FMIC, IC Muffler Delete, Added rear fogs and got them programmed, Cravenspeed Dipstick, Way X Brace, More Mods to come.*

I rotate same side only, front and back every 5k. Usually running directional tires, regardless it's good practice.

Rotate/Balance Cost

My Mini dealer wanted $200 to rotate and balance my run flats (7000 miles). Sounds really excessive. Is there something unique that Mini does? The service advisor when questioned about the price said "we hand balance". I walked away and figured I would go to a local tire dealer. What does this service generally cost?

HOLY CRAP! I'm a service advisor at a Toyota/VW dealer. We charge $59.95 to Road Force balance all 4 wheels. $200 is out of this world. To mount and dismount new tires we only charge $20/wheel. That also includes balancing.

Walk away, they obviously do not want your business.

They say a tire in balance tends to stay in balance. If you don't notice any balance issues, just do a rotation.

$200 is definitely way too much for the service. Even a Roadforce balance wouldn't cost you that.

Check out tirerack.com - they have an installation section where you can see what various tire places in your area charge.

Go to the local tire store. I use Discount Tire & for $35 or so they will give you a lifetime balance & rotations. Dealers are the absolute worst place to have any tire work done.

I agree you do not next to balance tires just because you rotate them. The Mini dealer here in St Louis charges approx 34 dollars for tire rotation. But I take mine to Jiffy Lube and they do it for 19.95 and it is much closer . You do not have to have your car service or the oil changed at Jiffy lube , just get them to rotate the tires and make SURE whomever does it that they use a torque wrench or torque sticks to torque the wheel nuts. They normally use torque sticks to insure the correct amount of torque is used.

I have it on good authority that Mini charges $200 because after the rotation, it has to be reprogrammed to tell the Mini it still has wheels on it..

In addition to front to rear only and consideration of directional tires, my ma told me that tires with a "v" pattern are not recommended as they cause front end vibration. This just for thought and discussion.

Uhhh, I guess if you never rotate them and the develop a chop.. But the same could be said with any "aggressive" tire tread.. not just ones with a "V"..

Is that reprogramming completed before or after they replace the windshield washer fluid filter?

Get a torque wrench for $20 and do the rotation yourself. You can jack up one side and rotate both wheels at the same time. I can do all 4 in the driveway in less than 20 minutes.

Thanks guys

Thanks for your replies, I thought they were full of crap when they said $200 bucks. My experience with this dealer has generally not been great, now it's sunk to being pathetic.
