Rain Sensor Calibration
Rain Sensor Calibration
Posted this in the R58 section but got no response. This question probabaly applies to any MINI around the 2012 model year. To make a long story short I had to replace the windshield. Insurance replaced it but with a 3rd party glass that included the rain sensor mount already attached. The rain sensor works but is not sensitive enough. So much water collects on the glass before it wipes that the feature is now useless. There is a sensitivity adjustment in the user menu but does not do much in this case. Looking at a BMW forum I read something about a calibration procedure for the rain sensor that has to be done by the dealer when glass is installed. I asked the MINI dealer about this and they did not appear to know the answer. So is there a calibration procedure for the MINI like on BMW?
If so, that would make sense. The behavior of the sensor is like the calibration is off. Safelite has indicated that if I can not get this work they will replace the glass with an OEM part (something tells me they won't). I hate to replace a perfectly good windshield if there is a calibration procedure that may fix the problem.
Anyone have any experience with replacement windshields and the rain sensor on any MINI model?

Yes, I did try the BC adjustment. I was already in the 3rd position with the 4th being the most sensitive. Moving up to the 4th position did not do much. Moving down to the 1st position just about shut it down to the point where it would not work at all.
Yea the video is right here for the sensor adjustment. But it looks like that was done.

I have a thread here that explains all the parts (except the top seal as the R58 does not show one to be replaced ), my guess is to make sure nothing looks off on the connection from the box to the window, like its all clipped together, and the box senor is flush against the adhered piece. Other then that, it might just need the OEM MINI glass part, instead of aftermarket.

Thanks and good luck.

If I may chime in.
Can't you complain to your insurance company or the installer? After all, it worked fine before the glass was installed so it shouldn't become your problem, at least not yet. If you had body work done you would expect to rain leaks or wind noise and would take it back to get it corrected, no? I understand wanting to fix it yourself if possible, but if there's expense and time involved, remember that you are the customer who was given a short shrift on the install.
