Help - 2004 Cooper S Stalling at idle
Hello
New member - lifetime car enthusiast. My 2004 S has 60K miles and just went through its 60K service. Before the service, it had started intermittently stalling as you would come to a stop. After the service, it was fine for a couple months, but the problem has returned - and, I've noted that the idle sometimes "hunts," going up and down in rpm - that would seem to suggest a vacuum leak, but it doesn't happen with any consistency. My service shop cannot seem to find the problem. Through extensive forum searches I have seen only one possible solution, to replace the Fuel Tank Breather Valve. Does anyone know if this is the solution to the stalling, or is it something else?
The car died 5 times yesterday afternoon, but then sat for 15 minutes and drove perfectly.... It is my son's car, and I'm afraid it isn't safe for him to drive like this, so I'm a bit at my wits end on this issue and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

Sorry for your troubles. My 2004 sometimes hunts and stumbles a bit if it idles for any length of time but it never dies and a quick rev seems to cure the problem for another 30-secs or so. Seems heat-related. Has done it since new but never worth complaining about and others with the same issue have said that the dealers were never able to duplicate the problem consistently or come up with a fix. Sounds like your problem is related but more serious. Good luck and if you find a fix, report back.
