Necessary mod

In the past year (2 actually), I've had issues driving #1 because the clutch and brake pedals are too close together. My shoes get caught up together and on more than one occasion, I've hit both the brake and clutch while trying to shift on the freeway! Nothing like slamming on the brakes at 65!

I have no feeling in either of my feet due to chemotherapy, but I really don't want to give up my car. It's been fun relearning to drive with the exception of this one issue. So, time to modify (Seabee-ize it).

Not the prettiest, but it works. 1/4" aluminum bent to clear the footrest. Grip tape to keep my foot on. I tried to attach it with u-bolts to start with, but it would twist right off. I put 3 bolts thru the pedal, a little thread locker, and viola! Pushes the clutch out far enough my feet don't get caught up. I may still hit both when going for the brake, but that's no big deal. I can't hit both when going for the clutch. Car is more enjoyable and safer too!

Another solution is to get an automatic.

Ugly but it works. Sucks about the neuropathy.

It does suck, but it's better than being dead!

I do have an automatic (#2). But there are a few reasons not to get another:
1) #1 is paid for
2) 6 speeds are fun
3) I really like my car

Now if anybody has a super low mileage Clubman S with an auto that wants to trade even Steven...well we can talk : )
