My '14 Roadster S will depart England, this week, so I'm a newbie. What reaction do you get when you tell non-MINI owners your car has a name?

Ruffian

Heading home on the day of purchase we hit the entrance ramp to the interstate, and my first thought was: "Holy *** she runs like a thoroughbred!" So I named her after one of the most successful fillies in horse racing history.

A lot of people that don't own MINI's name their car. Besides if they look at you funny, so what? They just don't understand...

There is a reason I didn't buy a Camry...

I call him (Chili red r53) Obie. as in reference to Oberyn Martell from A Song of Ice and Fire. What was his nick name again?

Fiona. Although, my sister in law's car is named Fiona, so now I call her Pickles, because all the girls in the neighborhood named Fiona are called Pickles. (Too obscure?)

My wife calls her Obsession.

I've named all kinds of stuff. Cars, surfboards, children... It's fun. Makes it part of the family.

They 'lol' but generally approve. Even non-car enthusiasts know that MINI's have more personality than other cars do, so they can understand the whole naming thing.

Mine is fairly simple. My son called it "Coopah" so I went with it.
