This morning in Houston wet weather and bad roads the Mini slid. This is the outcome, tell me if you think he is a for sure goner :(

Very sad day and I keep getting upset at myself enough though I did all I could to prevent this.

if theres no frame damage it shouldn't be totaled. It looks like its fixable, might cost a dollar or two.

Usually if the airbags went off, or the top of the motor got wacked, yes, totaled unless the car is VERY new.
Can't say for sure without looking at what was moved/broken, but much will depend at what % of value your insurance company calls a car gone...seeminimly simple options, like rental car coverage when the car might take 45 days to fix can tip the scales towards getting $$ for a new(er) car.
Either way, sounds like you are ok, so you mini did its job!! Good luck.

Why do people continue to speculate about 'frame damage' on a unibody car?

This is similar to my accident (look at my recent threads) anyway that looks fixable. My car is still in the shop getting repaired but my repair total was $6900. Very painful just looking at it but glad you're ok. Did your airbags deploy? My airbags didnt deploy.

I am okay besides my wrist aching but I will live. Going to get checked after work. The airbags did not deploy and my insurance said it might be a fault and defect

Don't worry that looks fixable/repairable. Now that I think about it, your accident is the same exact as mine and we are both here in Texas! LOL! Very nice car though and I hope your car gets repaired soon. Just be careful out there!

lol...my thoughts exactly, but then again, why are cars still put on jigs/measuring tables to straighten them.....just not the frame, but subframes, subassemblys, etc....body shops still say frame straightening, etc...so it is an industry issue as much as consumer education.

I'm not sure about the MINI but that Mazda 3 you have photos of is most likely totaled. Although the rear passenger door could still be salvageable.

Oh well just gotta wait. I hope you have full coverage on the car. Just from experience I can tell you one thing, the repair process can take a month or more. I am not getting my car back till the 22nd of February and my car went in the shop on January 13. Keep us updated though, I am sure a lot of the people here can help you if you need help with anything!

I appreciate it everyone. I will cross my fingers. There is a lot of damage internally with the oil pouring out after the wreck and turbo cracked plus if the frame is tweaked at all

Like raffy, I had similar damage - $6400. Now would be the time to get the JCW front bumper to match the badge.

My car was in the shop for 6 weeks. Christmas was in the middle there, so....

Keep us posted and glad you're OK!

I'll second that. When mine was hit (while parked) in December, it took five weeks—and the vast majority of that time was waiting on parts (most of the rear suspension was replaced).

Well lets see I got in a 5mph fender bender and it cost $3k in damage for me and most of what happened here happened to mine but, a lot more. Remember it is not how much damage is done to the car. It is how much it will cost vs. how much the car is worth. Also if it is totaled I would love to buy some parts off of it.

When I got into my accident a few years ago... it took about 2 months to repair everything. But they also did a ton of work on the thing. They pretty much replaced the entire front clip of the car and it was a frame machine for a time. They also had to remove the engine for some reason or another (it was like 5 years ago and I dont remember exactly why). Just be glad your airbag didnt go off as that was the only "injury" I had. Which was a minor burn on my forearm. Your car really doesnt look totaled though.

Looks similar to what I did to my 2011 MCS last year. Front end collision, no airbag deployment--$9k repair bill.

Wow, sorry to see/hear about this but if possible can I call dibs on the headlights? If tabs are broken they will surly replace them. I would love for them to be disposed of to me

Doesn't look totaled. But hey, I've only been in the collision business 32 years. Looks like a high hit. Not happy about the motor damage, that can't be helpful. Most states will look around 75% of vehicle value before considering a vehicle a total loss. Here in VA, we have the "salvage act" where any vehicle 7 model years old or new, can not be repaired once the repair cost reaches the 75% threshold. It appears most everything damaged is a bolt on item. With a high hit like that, it probably wouldn't deploy the air bags (or SRS for the perfectionists). There is a sensor that measures the force of the impact and the upper components give more that the structure.

As for the comment about "frame rails" yes, unibody cars don't have actual
"frame" rails. However they do have "side members" that form a longitudinal structure similar to what used to be referred to as the frame. And even in the industry, we still refer to them as frame rails. ChefTyGuy was raised in a collision repair shop, so he most surely knows the difference from a body on frame design and a unitized body vehicle. But thanks for trying to correct him.

Car is not totaled but almost 10k in damage.

Going to take about 11 days to repair once parts are received.

Hoping to make sure that I can get the black OEM trim and headlights since they want to replace with chrome trim then dechrome and paint black.

Does anyone know the Part numbers or where to look for the Black OEM Headlight Housing and the Black OEM trim part numbers?

Nice to see you came out of this OK and that your MINI is getting fixed.

You make want to take this as an opportunity to mix and match MINI parts...for example if you don't have the aero front end and that is something that you want, ask the body shop to add it in and if there is a difference in price you cover the difference.

If you are interested in MINI part numbers here is a good place to start:
