Dead AMP or blown speakers?

Hi guys I just got a 2004 Mini Cooper s it has the Harmon kardon stereo and I'm not sure if the speakers are blown or the amp is dead. The speakers work fine until like volume 10 ish then they sort of just start crackling. I'm leaning towards the fact that they are blown. If they are, does anyone know where I could get some tweeters / speakers replacements. I'd like to get some harman kardon replacements but would consider aftermarket as long as I could keep the factory look.

I would lean towards the amp if all the speakers crackle when the volume is up. These amps are known for failing.

Ebay for HK originals or Crutchfield for replacements.

Changing just the hk amp is problematic (to non-hk), as are the speakers....
due to the desgin, 100% must be torn out if you go aftermarket....
the amp uses linelevel speakers, the speaker impeadence is pretty non-standard, the crossovers are in the wrong places...etc....so do some research and make a choice....aftermarket ends up a gut and rewire including the head in most cases, or just swapping an amp, which while $$, does sound good st moderate volumes....depends on your needs and $$$.

Yes and no. Zippy nailed it.

The HK system is well enginerred for moderate volumes, but as an oem radio, is VERY different in compotents, setup and wiring compared to aftermarket solutions...
