Nothing in a MINI is very far away, really... It is only as far away as the glove box release button.

I don't interact with the phone much during driving. The occasional "next" on some music maybe. I do all of the distracting stuff like map address entry at stop lights, when stopped in traffic or before I set off. Answering phone calls I can do with the MFSW buttons. The phone pauses and resumes itself automatically if a call comes in. I don't place calls when driving unless it's to my wife using the shortcut on my home screen.

That does look interesting. Can you post a picture? I might just switch...

I am currently using the Breffo Spiderpodium. Not really a hard mount - but it sits nicely on the vent directly above the center speedo/console.

I like it because it is easily removed (just pick it up and throw it in the glovebox).

Thing is, with navigation... (which is all I'm really mostly after, music is USB based, and I'm not one to be fiddling w/ the phone either)... I really want to have the visual gps as close to my actual road viewing as possible...

I ordered a mountek, that looks like the best thing right now until someone develops my idea (for cheap!) of using the triangle between vent and speedo.

The best one I ever saw, which I can't find again, was a sort of truncated pyramid thing that mounted at about 10 o'clock above the speedo, and had a ball and socket thing on the end. It mounted the phone in an ideal place just next to your right hand if you're at 10 and 2 on the wheel. It did involve some disassembly but no drilling. I couldn't find it again when it came time to buy my mount, that's why I ended up with the Proclip as the next best option. I'll try again to find it...

Found it!

It's from Kuda: http://www.kudausa.com/mini-mini-coo...ack-a1224.html

It's not cheap ($60 for the base plus the device mount) but it's probably the best integrated, and is perfectly located for a heavy GPS user.

While searching I also came across this one

from Mini Do More (better known for the towing stuff they do) at http://www.minidomore.com/interior_a...ipod_mount.php which looks like a kind of simpler and I think cheaper Cravenspeed alternative, that mounts to the back of the tach and takes Proclip device mounts.

I use the

It's like the Macally only better. It's nice because even this holder is able to handle the BookBook case http://twelvesouth.com/products/bookbook_iphone5 I use for my iPhone.

I also have this but never use it since the stock MINI Y cord for my iPhone is way too short.

How stable is the mountek one? That one seems ideal cause I never use my CD player, its central, not too low or high. Any pictures of it in a mini?

Reading through this thread got my interest up in a Proclip. I'd like something not on the windshield since I have had suction cups melt in the heat before. In searching the Proclip site, I noticed this one listed only under the Country Man. Mine Mini is an 08 Cooper. From the pictures and the mounting instructions, it does not look to be a location specific to the Country Man. Does anyone know?

There are two for your car, one for cars without the "secret compartment":
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-veh...979-13369.aspx
and one for those with it:
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-veh...046-13369.aspx

You can do your own searches by clicking on "Vehicle Mount" at the Proclip site which takes you here: http://www.proclipusa.com/vehiclemou...clemounts.aspx
where you can choose make/model/year.

Finally installed the Craven Speed cell phone mount. Took about 10 min, I am very happy with the quality and how snug the phone fits.

Hey all

I re adapted my Ram Mount from my last vehicle. It's a suction cup to the window mount - I suppose the only drawback is some folks may not like the distraction of the mount on the window. I've had no issues what so ever with the suction cup coming loose.

Here is the mount:
http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResul...5/Default.aspx

And this is the holder:
http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResul...5/Default.aspx

With the windshield being so far forward, I ended up using two arms instead of just one. It's a tad bouncy, but puts it in a good spot for access and visibility to the phone.

I'll take some photos when it's light out.
Michael
