had my 09 JCW "Recoded": FYI List of items completed-MUCH HAPPIER!

This is informational. When I first posted a query on "Speedo reading too high" I received a lot of great responses. I fixed it by recoding the car and as long as that was being recoded, I had a bunch of other annoying features improved.
Here is the list.

1) Remote closing windows
2) Auto Door Unlock when ignition is turned OFF
3) Selective Unlocking with Remote (One Click Unlock)
4) Power Windows after Ignition Deactivation
5) Efficient Dynamics shift indicator suggestions enable when cruising
6) Always Show Digital Speed
7) Disable speed overestimation (SPEEDO CORRECTION)
8) Opening Doors Will Not Interrupt Window Roll Up
9) Double-Blink Hazard Lights
10) Fogs and High Beams On Simultaneously
11) Fogs and High Beam Flash On Simultaneously
12) Disable NAV System Warning (THAT INITIAL SCREEN)
13) Sunroof Auto Open/Close (One Touch Venting/Opening Closing)
14) Enable alarm system (for when i get one installed soon)
15) Disable Seat Belt Chime (Passenger)

Some of you may not agree with some of these changes as they might represent safety issues in certain circumstances, but i don't have any of those circumstances (like small kids).

Anyway, this is supposed to be information in case some of you are not aware of the long list of software codes available to make feature modifications.

This is something you had the dealer do? Was not aware there were options.

Was there a cost associated?

Uh...wow! There are some cool s/w mods there. I'd be curious as well to the cost (if any) incurred.

Recoding 09 JCW

Local dealer tried but is too new a dealership and was not confident to do it.. Some of these mods might fall outside their "safety" zone anyways.

Local Engineering graduate has the NCS Expert SW and knows how to use it. He travels around the Northeast visiting clubs to reccode batches of BMWs and Mini's. Charges a flat $50..well worth it as he knows his stuff and tests the car afterwards thoroughly after the recode.

Check NAM in archives for coding or NCS Expert. Check Youtube and Facebook. There is a fair amount of stuff on it. There is a BMWcoding site too if you want to learn to do it yourself, but it is beyond what I want to learn.
Cut and paste these.

is the Youtube site for the engineer who did mine and his email is:
codemycar@gmail.com
He says he can do it remotely.

Hope this adds to the information or points you in the right direction.

#5 explained

Oh yeah, that one... On the digital display, once it is enabled, #5 shows an up arrow or down arrow supposedly at optimal shift points for efficiency.

The Coder asked if I wanted it so I said okay, but I really didn't know what it would look like or how it might work.

As it turns out, both arrows show up on the digital display now but do nothing. No up or down shift indication at all. And even if it did work, I don't think it would be of much use...I would not be looking at it.

Is there a complete list and does it vary by model/year? Good stuff. It is a shame each owner can't simply do it ala mutiple OEM's that one can set up these types of items. Thanks for the post.

Thank you for the knowledge! I shall definitely research this thoroughly and see which codes I would like to change if any.

One final note: Dealer had to fix another problem with carbon buildup on engine valves and the last step in the process was a software reload which wiped out all the recodes listed and set it all back to defaults. Good news is the dealer agreed to pay to have it recoded again. But recoding does have its downside if the dealer is unfamiliar with how to reset individual switches. Something to be aware of ....

So, back to the guy who did it the first time.....

I am amazed that the dealer is willing to pay for you to get the coding done again.
