Need some help from experienced mini owners!!

So im basically getting a stick up the *** from my somewhat local used car dealer where i bought my r53 from and need your help to prove them wrong!!

Some conditions of me buying the car from them was that they had to paint the small area at the very top of the inside hatch, due to missing paint for whatever reason. Well about 3 weeks ago they did the job and now suddenly whenever it rains my interior gets flooded. So the first time i noticed this happening i decided to pull it in the work garage and dig into the problem and find where it was leaking from. Well, i found that the drain tubes that go to the sunroof were no longer connected, effectively allowing the water to just drain into the car! Guess where those drain tubes go?? Thats right kiddies directly where they had just painted! Well i found those tubes coiled up inside a structural cavity at the very rear right where they exit the car.

So the next business day i sent them an email describing my problem and promptly received a phone call to come down and check it out, well what i go at the dealer shocked me (due to their very reputable name). The guy brought out his tech that had painted it and the tech claimed he had just taped over the tubes and painted it, never removing them. And in turn i got the response that "if you search the internet you will find it is very common for those drain tubes to just fall off" ??!!??!!?? Are you kidding me? You expect me to believe they just fall off i was thinking. He told me the best he would do is steam clean the carpets and headliner and give me a back seat out of a used junk parts car that was on the lot. I told him that was not acceptable and he said ok and walked away. I was floored! Unbelievable! Well touche, i have proof your lying to me! I pulled the drain tubes out, well the one i could actually get out, and it was covered in white overspray paint! How could it get paint on it if it was still installed inside the car under the headliner???

My question to all of you is have you ever heard of these drain tubes just falling off and allowing the sunroof to just drain into the car?? Now granted im of somewhat intelligence and already know that both of them wont just fall off at the same time and then paint themselves white but i figured i would just throw this out there. I have already filed complaints with the BBB, NYS DMV, and the NYS Attorney General office. Here is my official complaint, better detailing my story.

Oh on top of the fact that the power steering pump is clearly going, to the point where its making all the lights dim when you turn the wheel. Yet they say that the noise thats coming from it is perfectly normal. Again, im somewhat intelligent and have worked on vehicles for years and know this is more BS.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello, my name is Michael ******, i had recently purchased a 03 Mini Cooper S from your dealership approximately 2 months ago. The initial purchasing experience was excellent, Jay and Katie were both wonderful to work with. However, since then i have had nothing but issues.

About 3 weeks into owning the car it dawned on me that i had yet to basically go over the entire vehicle and just check it out for my own piece of mind, things such as the fluids, tire pressure and things like that. I then found that 3 of the tires only had about 18 psi in them and the 4th had only 8psi. This was very easily overlooked due to the fact that the car is equipped with run flat tires and the TPMS light was not on. This is because you are able to set the TPMS system to any pressure and if it deviates from that pressure then it illuminates. Unfortunately for me the set pressure in my vehicle upon delivery was only half inflated. I then properly filled them and they have not gone soft since.

Second, i made an appointment two weeks ago to have a couple things looked at and have the rear hatch area painted as per the conditions of me purchasing the car. Unfortunately i picked up the vehicle and left feeling very unsatisfied and a feeling of being handled. The biggest problem i had was that the power steering pump was making a loud whining sound, the tech had assured me that it was perfectly normal for it to sound that way because it is an electric pump. I am not a full time mechanic but i do work on vehicles and have a somewhat sound mechanical ability, i know what a bad power steering pump sounds like and the one in my vehicle is definitely not "healthy". I also had numerous friends and colleagues who are full time mechanics and all agree that the pump is bad. Also a problem, was the sound coming from the transmission. Before i had brought it there to have it checked out it was very consistently making a "chinking" sound coming out of first gear. After i picked it up the sound that was gone, with no explanation other than it was never there. I mean in my eyes it would have been better to tell me the fluid was low and they put some in and it went away or some additive was used to quiet it down. But i got nothing.
Lastly, and the biggest problem yet. This past weekend i had decided to change the speakers in the car. While doing the rears i had to pull most of the back end apart to get to them. I noticed a bit of water under the rear seats and and the back area. This concerned me but i did not have the time to dig deeper into the root of the problem. Yesterday im sure you could tell it was raining most of the day, I just happened to be driving in the rain when i looked back at the back seat and discovered it covered in water, i look up the headliner to see its soaked. Later in the night when i had time i decided it was time to dig deeper into the problem and what i found was quite frustrating. By all outward appearances it very plainly looks like when the tech who painted the back hatch area, last time i brought it to you, had pulled out the rubber drain tubes that connect to the sunroof/rear glass and never properly reinstalled them. By doing this it allowed all the water coming off the roof to drain inside my car. I spent a couple hours last night taking the back end apart and mopping up the puddles of water inside my car. The headliner, rear seat bottom, front and rear carpets, and even the rear curtain airbags all have water damage to them. Needless to say this is the straw that broke the camel's back. If you or someone would like to inspect the damage the car is located at 104 Grant Ave in Auburn. I am here almost every day. My phone number is 315-***-****. Please give me a call so we can move forward with this. Thank you.

Yes it does happen.
Your situation sounds very different but there are a number of threads that discuss the tubes just becoming disconnected and draining into the car.

Now, it is not an every car problem but it is known to happen.

Good luck.
