In California it's 25mph for residential and 15mph if kids are around.

I hope you get it taken care of and I understand that you were just releasing some steam on what happened. Sometimes this place (NAM) will get you responses that you don't deserve and dang sure can't appreciate but that is what happens when you post in an open forum like this. Don't take any of it to seriously

Bottom line, I was distracted - so much so that I almost didn't see the cop waving at me to pull over! $140 distraction, but it could have been far worse if I'd hit something or someone because I wasn't paying enough attention - learned my lesson that's for sure!
Note! We have a member who admits he was at fault! MINIdave, you are to be congratulated.

Do what miniDave said, go back to the spot and try and find a speed limit sign. If none is posted and even if it's residential you may be able to buck the ticket. You know the old saying 'ignorance of the law is no excuse'.

No, life would be so much worse without speed limits. The vast majority of drivers on the road are too stupid, ignorant, or just plain don't care enough to drive appropriately for different situations. Speed limits and other regulations help keep a lid on things.

You hit that one on the head. Way too many idiots out there to not have
speed regs.

Who are you kidding??!! We have become a society of "ME...ME...ME!!" and that is more prominantly seen on the streets than anywhere else. Cell Phone Regs. have been active in my state for about a year, in OR just across the river and where I work for longer, but do you really think it keeps IDIOTS from yamering on their phones...H*** NO!!
What about Littering...I just saw a guy today throw a Cigarette Butt out the window...in OR it is a $6250 Fine...you'd think that would have stopped the SOB from doing it...again H*** NO!!

I wish I knew what it would take to make drivers more aware of their responsibilities, certainly the Laws and Regulations are not working!!

I'll get off my soap box now, but I hope you understand what I am trying to say!!

RJ, I hear what you are saying but I agree with the op that without laws we'd be up s..t's creek w/o a paddle. He said as well as you did, there are idiots out there already. Can you really imagaine what people would do w/o rules and regs? I can't.

Just a couple of thoughts.

There doesn't have to be a speed limit sign. 25 mph is the de facto speed limit in residential areas. That's the limit unless posted otherwise.

Go to court. You may win, the cop may not show up, you may get a probation before judgement, (plea for mercy, plea for judgement, whatever they may call in it in your state), you may be guilty. Chances are unless you have a horrible record, (and the judge will just check his computer and pull your record up...) They probably want your $ more than to give you points. Make a deal...

Buy a radar detector. I really like the Valentine1, but there several other very good ones on the market. Radar can pick you up and clock you a VERY long way off. Over a mile with the right conditions and set up. Usually they clock you within 1000 ft. Usually a lot closer than that...lol Almost nothing can save you if you are the only car on the road. Instant on it a killer.

I'd carefully check the Washington state regulations about residency, licensing and registration before you show up at court with a Texas license and registration saying you were leaving your appartment...

Oh, and I'm a big fan of no speed limits...lol I'll just stay home for the first 6 months or so.. It'll winnow out the herd...
