Couldn't find the right Mini...So I painted one!

So I thought, since I was getting a mini for myself and my little girl was ready to get her 1st motorized car. It would be a good idea to find a mini for her. Well, it started off pretty simple until I realized that the two seat mini only comes in Blue

So since our little girl (only child) loves pink, I couldn't imagine her not having a pink car. Unlike most times, I was hoping the car would come mostly disassembled. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, it was nearly fully built minus the wheels and windshield for the most part right out of the box. So I had to remove every screw and attached piece from the car. I then proceeded to tape off all the items I couldn't remove that I didn't want painted. Then a very light sanding to give the spray paint (Krylon Fusion) something to adhere too.

Then started the painting. I bought the Krylon Fusion for plastics. I had to special order pink from a local hardware store as no one in town stocked pink. I bought a whole case (6 cans) thinking I would have plenty after several coats. Boy was I wrong. I used every last drop of paint from every can. I actually had to dig a couple cans out of the trash to see if their was any left.

Overall, I have to say I think it came out pretty well. It was well worth the effort. I had to do most of the work in my neighbors garage, until I was finished. They would come out to their garage when I would be working and just shake their head...like "what the hell is wrong with you". But in the end it was well worth it. My little girl has a mini like no other and she loves it!! And that laugh and smile everytime she drives it is worth all the work x10.

She was so excited she could barely contain herself.

By the next day she was driving all over the place and would through it into high gear (5mph) every chance she could

And I had to add this little piece tonight to make it more complete.

Now if I could just get mine home

Sounds like she's got a special dad too. Hey, at least you got to try your hand at modding while you're waiting for your car! After all this waiting it's still hard to believe I'll have it tomorrow. I see you ordered yours on 9/20. The first of the three that were built for me was ordered on 11/19. We finally got it right after two false starts.

Thank you for the kind words, I try my best.
Chaswyck, regarding your orders....please don't scare me like that.....if my car comes in wrong I am going to start driving my daughters.
Please post some HQ pics of your car, I really like that color combination. I love the contrast

You sure she would let you drive her brand new car?! That is asking for a lot after all!

Nice job. We put Jakob in the blue one as well at the store. There's a lower quality one seater in yellow, which would be the color Jakob would want so it matches my car. Hm, maybe the blue one painted yellow. Heck, I've painted two motorcycles I could tackle that. More than six cans you say???

The funny thing is she would love it if I would. She always says " I wish you or Mom could ride with me".

I was originally going to paint the undercarriage as well, but as I said I ran out of paint. I probably went a little crazy with the number of coats of paint but I didn't want to see any blue coming through the pink. I would say 7-8 cans just to be safe and that way you can do the wheel wells and have some left over for any minor fender benders. The Fusion paint has held up surprising well (the floor on the inside hasn't worn or chipped at all). I did let the car sit for almost a week for the paint to fully cure.

What?! Your SA didn't throw in a set of floor mats for free?

Oh well... Some bulk carpeting from your local AutoZone could help protect that floor.

Why some generic carpet???
I would go rogue and buy some used MINI rubber mats here on NAM, and customize it to fit her ride. With logo showing, of course...

Trust me I wouldn't half *** it at this point and put generic carpet in there...I may have to address this though...I wonder if the rear mats would fit..hmmmm
I will get back to you on this.

Because I was thinking about carpeting the interior to protect it, rather than floormats. I doubt there is much difference between the carpeting MINI uses, and the stuff you get at AutoZone.

Now if you wanna go the floormat route, and protect that carpeting...
