Show Us Your Stripes!

I've been agonizing over racing/viper stripe patterns for my new Spice Orange MCS that should be here in a little over a week. I searched for a single thread devoted to stripes and, surprisingly, couldn't find one. It's tough and time consuming going through the galleries. So....Let's see your stripes!

Once I get my stripes installed (doing a basic Silver on British Racing Green Viper Stripes on my 07 MCS) I will gladly post pictures of mine! I am having them done by a local vinyl shop that does a variety of vinyl work such as car wraps, decals, etc for businesses and government type stuff. Was easy to find, I found vinyl body wraps to be a great resource to search in your area and then go talk to them in person. I'm not confident that I can put those on straight!!!

However, I also know that the search here stinks! So I did a little Googling to alleviate the problem so hopefully it helps:

Thanks for the links. Silver on BRG will look awesome. I saw like a ghost silver (frost) on BRG and it was very cool. Subtle, but classy. Yeah, I'm not confident that I could get them on straight either. LOL I don't mind paying people who know what they're doing. My car is spice orange so I've been pretty much zeroed in on black stripes, especially since I'm blacking out most of the chrome. I love the SO, but it limits me with stripe colors. I'll probably do a matte black.

In my opinion, most colors only have a few options that really work well. BRG is limited to either White or Silver IMO (Black is hard since there isn't much contrast) and I have a black roof so white is out! Silver was really my only choice.

My MINI has an appointment December 8th to receive his stripes! I can't wait...seriously I can't. I'm getting excited just thinking about it!

Are you supplying the stripes or are they making them for you?

Purchasing material from them directly. I'm pretty confident I'm getting a better product, was cheaper (less than half online costs), and they will warranty the stripes and the installation instead of just installation, which if you provide stripes means they'll only warranty that its on straight and stuck when you pick up your car.

Any place that will warranty the material they didn't provide would be nuts! I'm doing a pair of 8" Stripes with a 1" gap between them, should look phenomenal.

I also saw carbon fiber stripes on a BRG that looked cool. They were obviously much more subtle than the silver would be so it's a completely different look but they looked good. I think I would do the silver though too. Here's what I think I'm going to do (it's the white coupe at the top of this page of the thread):

That style is great looking too! Sounds like an e-mail to my vinyl company might be needed!

Here are my installed stripes! Forgive the slightly dirty MINI, it just snowed yesterday and the roads are still quite salty (shows me for living in Western New York). I'm ecstatic with the results and am definitely happy with the outcome. I was a bit worried how much I would like it when I dropped it off but now I'm a happy motorist!

Looks awesome! I'm doing something very similar but on black. Getting them put on on Monday. Just the boot and bonnet, though, not the roof because my roof is black and don't want to do the two tone stripe thing. I'll post pics when they're done.

It never occurred to me to do an aftermarket striping but I love the dealer installed sport stripes on ours:

This is exactly the design I've had in my head! I love the width and the pin stripe and the fact the go all the way down front and back! I plan on doing this but in red on my EG Coupe when it gets here. It has a red roof and mirrors and the only thing I can't decide is whether to leave the roof alone or do EG stripes on the roof. Either way, the bonnet and boot are getting red stripes like this!

Great job!

TerminalVelocity,

Per the work order I have the following information. A set of two stripes each done as below seperated by a 3.5" space.

1/4" Stripe, 1/4" Spacing, 6.5" Strip, 1/4" Spacing, 1/4" Stripe
The guys I used to do it for me really knocked it out of the park. Definitely can tell its quality work compared to some of the pictures I've seen online (gaps between the emblem for instance). Definitely would recommend having someone who specializes in vinyl car graphics do it for you. I went to the same place that did government and business vehicles (think Police, Fire, Ambulance and complete body wraps). Was happy when I found a small local business that was recommended!

Also, do the stripes in black on the roof...you'll be happy. If you don't like them take them off the roof after having it for a while being the worst case, best case you grin ear to ear each time you walk to your car (like me).

Got these about a year ago. We put them on ourselves and so far so good. They came straight from Hawaii

Sorry the picture's so small. If you click on it it gets bigger.

I got mine done on Monday, but haven't been able to take pics yet because it was raining here (yes, it does rain in southern CA every once in a while). They ran into a little problem, though so they had to get creative and compensate for it with the bonnet stripes. The problem was one of a few fit and finish problems I have. The wings logo was not centered on the bonnet! I measured it myself and, sure enough, it's 1/4 inch off center so if they hadn't gotten creative with the stripes, they would have looked like they were "off" because the stripes would not have been centered on the logo. How the heck do they put on the logo, of all things, off center? I also had them wrap the headlight and tail light trim in the same black gloss vinyl as the stripes. I agree completely with Cereal, get the stripes done by a vinyl professional. Most of them are doing full wraps and commercial work on trucks and so forth because there just isn't enough money in car stripes, but they do know their way around vinyl. I hope to get pics up tomorrow, weather permitting.

Here's a couple of pics of my stripe. A buddy and I spent the better part of a day doing it, but we were being overly careful to get things straight. Picked up the materials at Autozone for under $20.

Like Cereal, your stripes are what I got, but I have one of your set ups on either side of the center point of the bonnet. The white roof/stripes on the BRG is very cool and clean looking. Dare I say "classy"?

Mike, did you take your emblem off to do the stripe? I never considered a single stripe down the center, its different and well done. Your braver than I was!

Thanks so much for the details! I think your right concerning striping the roof. I'm sure I'll love it but if not I can always remove them. Do you by chance know the distance between the two 1/4 inch pin stripes at the middle? Of course I guess I can just use the windshield washer nozzles as a guide.

Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

Looks great! The black and white theme looks really good on MINI's. What? No blackjack rear view mirror cover?
