Ha! I had to draw the line somewhere. It was getting out of line with all the add on's.

3.5" per the work order. I would suggest you measure it out and and lay it out first so you can see how it works even if you tape pieces of paper cut to those sizes to make sure it lines up.

Oops! Guess I should've paid better attention since you already told me that in your prior post. My bad. Thanks again! I appreciate the help. Apparently I need a lot of it, lol!

TerminalVelocity, Haha, don't worry about it. Are you putting on the stripes yourself?

Also I'm loving seeing everyone else's stripes. I like seeing how different each MINI ends up looking with them, lots of character in this thread!

I'm not so sure about tackling the stripes myself. My nephew and I are going to black out the headlamp housings and grill surround with some 3M vinyl. I'll see how that goes and if I'm feeling "talented" we may go for it. Chances are though that I'll just have a local shop that does that sort of thing regularly do it. I want it perfect as you can imagine. We'll see though as I haven't even asked my nephew if he's done that sort of graphics work before. If so, I trust him 100% with all things automobile.

I think one of the many things great about owning a Mini and being part of the "community" is all the different mods folks do to make an already unique car even moreso!

Cereal and Chaswyck,

Did you all design your own stripes or did you have the installers do it?

Not the greatest picture...the flash is making my stripes look sort of "peachy" (they are not, they actually very closely match polar beige).

Nice Work! I like them a lot.
It's hard to tell, but how close are you the the windshield washer jets?
I am playing with the width of the stripes and how far of a cap to create I between them. I have 16 hours to decide

Thanks for the positive comments. I have to give credit where credit is due. The design came from a fellow NMA'er, "mschiml". I love how they came out.

Thanks! I decided to do the polar beige door panels to lighten it up inside (I also have the anthracite headliner). I guess it's an unusual order because my MA called me later in the evening after I placed the order and he said his sales manager wanted him to confirm the polar beige with me before they placed the order. I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

SpicyMaguro, is it just me (or my camera) or is Spice Orange the hardest color to photograph and get right? Sometimes it looks red and other times almost a pinkish. I absolutely love the color as does everyone who sees it, but the camera doesn't like it at all.

The installers had a helluva time. As I mentioned in another posting, the MINI logo is 1/4" off center and he said the washer nozzles weren't exactly symmetrical either. I didn't measure them, but I did measure the logo and it is off by a 1/4 inch. The one strip just touches the inside edge of the nozzle and the other one is slightly under it (they just pop out and they took them out to do the stripes). Since the nozzles are black you can't really see it unless it's pointed out. I like how this design "frames" the scoop with the 1/4" chaser stripes. I also didn't want the stripes to cover the scoop at all in case it melts and I have to have it replaced. This way, I can replace the scoop if necessary without it affecting the stripes. I might also go with a black scoop at some point.

I really like the curve on your stripes as they get down to the grill. The reason I didn't go with the MINI optional stripes is that they looked to straight to me.

Dutch, the lightening bolt is very cool and different. I seem to recall another thread ("What did you do to your MINI today", I think) in which you said a friend of yours designed it. What's cool about that is that it's like an original piece of art on your car and it has meaning.

Thanks for the information....and most of all the pictures
In light of your information, I'm going to go to the detailer tomorrow and play around with stripe thickness and placement and in light of your issues I will double check the symmetry.
Thanks again.

Thanks! The original idea was mine, but it was cleaned up and refined by my friend, who's a really talented graphic designer. I brought in a small-ish, quickly-hacked-up JPG file with the germ of the idea, and then she and I worked on it in Illustrator until all the angles were right and we found the right font for the numbers.

They make me smile every time the light catches them. They're black reflective vinyl, and they change a lot depending on the light. At some angles they're just about invisible, some other angles they go through dark brown and golden brown and gold, and at others--especially in low light with a properly-directed flashlight or headlight--they pop out blindingly bright and silver. Ka-pow....

They truly are a reflection (pun intended ) of me and the way I do things, though. Total custom, lots of DIY, crank it up a notch, and/or give it a new twist.... My guitar amp was mostly home-built and heavily-modded manufactured vacuum tube gear when I was playing in bands. Back when I was a teen, I built up all sorts of stuff from spare bike parts, including an 18 speed bike (in 1979!), and hopped up my moped from its stock 27MPH top speed to around 44MPH....

C ya,
Dutch

That was my deciding factor when I was weighing having plain black ones done at the factory. The configurator just made them look to straight. (And I wanted them OVER the clear bra so I could change or remove them)

My MA gave me the impression that polar beige is pretty rare too (though they had two convertibles on the lot with polar beige leather and door panels) I wanted to be as light as possible too.

Thanks for the kind words. I was definitely going for "classic", if not "classy", and I think I more or less got there. In an ideal world, the wide portion of the stripe would have been yellow with the thin white stripes on either side, similar to what the classic Lotus Formula One cars carried...but the guy I found locally that would do it wanted $450+, and I just wasn't going to pay that much! In the end, I'm happy with the way it turned out.

I don't know about brave...I'm just cheap, and figured I could always yank it back off if it looked like garbage! But yes, I did take the emblems off before doing the stripe. Cleaned all the old two-sided adhesive off the back of them and replaced it with some new heavy-duty 3M stuff that has held up really well over time.

Oh, and here's one more pic of the car in it's "finished" state, with a pair of Hella 500's on the front and some white 16" Rota Slipstreams. (You may have noticed in the earlier pic that I'd already replaced the chrome grille with the JCW mesh insert.)

@ Mike M - you definitely got "classic". I love the whole look especially with the white Slipstreams. Your car would definitely stand out in a crowd! Nice job.
