Some people cannot tell the difference between the two when it comes to looks but to me I like the look of the first generation better than the second and I can see the difference. Others have said the first generation is a bit less refined and offers more of a seat of the pants driving experience where you are really in touch with the road. I have no idea if this is true since I have not driven an R56 but I do like the feel of the car in terms of driving experience.
